I don't understand the $25/5-day special for cards under $500. Regular grading for cards under $500 is $17/10-day. Is an extra 5 days worth $8 a card? Especially when an actual 5-day turnaround time is not guaranteed? Maybe if it was available for cards over $500 it would make a little more sense as a "special".
Southsider beat me to it about the $25 special and the low declared value.....although, what's up with the $15 20 day special for cards under $250 in value? I've seen that one before and can't believe that anyone would use either one of these specials. The declared value just kills me in regards to reviews over $500...................................I will not pay it.
I have five orders there now, I would expect there not to be a lot of new competition coming in this month so I am fine with it

I've been thinking about just saving up my subs and putting in one gigantic one at the National next summer. These prices have me leaning towards it.
Question:
It says no autographs....does that include modern autographs like the Chrome inserts that are sometimes numbered or just pre-(1998 I think it is?) autos? Opinions?
My guess is that come the 1st of every month they just throw whatever specials up they can come up with quickly. I don't think the specials are thought out at all. Why have a $6.00 special for 1955 and earlier but nothing 1956-present
1 thing for sure, incoming orders this month will slow down and maybe we will start seeing some quicker grades?!
I find it amazing that people still pay for a membership and then the specials are sometimes outrageous. 50 card minimum? You have to spend a lot of money to join and then you have to spend a lot of money to submit on a special.
I do get the other side of the coin about how PSA can make you money but it is a service and should be seen as such.
I think the basic premise of these "specials" are to not receive any or a very few orders this month. They have been backed logged for almost 2 yeas now. They are probably only doing the early September loggage right now.
I am sure that it will be a slow month with employees of collectors universe and for them to spend time with their families so why ask for more orders with a great special if they are still processing orders from September? I have a 9/30 order on the way to me now but my 9/26 order is still not done as of yet.

I agree that the $25 special with a declared value of $500 doesn't make much sense. I was in the same dilemma recently, and just decide to renew my Collector's Club membership again even though I just renewed it not that long ago. The reason is the free voucher. For a Platinum membership, you receive 15 free gradings at $500 declared value for an approximate 7 business day turnaround. The membership price is $189, so that's $12.60 per card. So if you can get up to 15 cards for your submission, why pay $25 per card for 7 business days, when you can use the voucher and pay $12.60 per card for 7 business days? And you get the free Cracker Jack book. And you get the SMR magazine renewal even though if you duplicate your membership like I did, you'll get 2 magazines a month, supposedly. But you also extend your PSA membership for another year. It's a win, win, win if you can get 15 cards in your submission. (And this completely beats the $15 20 day special for $250 declared value.) If you can get only 6 cards, then you can do the Gold Membership renewal, which isn't quite as good, since it's $110 to renew. So that means that it's about $18.33 per card, which is still better than $25 per card. And you still get the book, and the magazines, and the PSA renewal. You only lose 2 business days in turnaround, approximately. Still seems like the way to go if you have cards for $500 declared value although it's somewhat of a tossup for the $15 20 day special w/ $250 declared value special.

I also have 5 there and think maybe these "specials" were done to decrease subs for this month in an effort to get caught up.
Doesn't make much business sense to me if that is the case.
