Bust Half Specialists: O-124 Opinions Sought

telephoto1telephoto1 Posts: 4,744 ✭✭✭✭✭
I haven't seen an example of this E over A variety offered on the bay in a while-and the last example I've seen was from last January's FUN sale. Is it a true R-6 variety and what should it end up bringing in your opinion? Disclosure- I don't own it nor am I bidding but one of my best friends is the owner.

It's interesting that all three early half types have an E/A variety...1795, 1806 and 1814. Pretty cool, this one appears to be the rarest...although I don't know what the demand is like.
The capped bust version commands a hefty premium, maybe being a Redbook variety helps I suppose.

Guys, for whatever reason, the Redbook only mentions this one as an Asterisk....but low grade cleaned examples tend to bring over 2K....so it is recognized but not by the commonfolk as it is not in registry sets. That coin should be worth around $2500 at least.

    I agree with Dave...around $2500. I don't think it's undergraded, though.

    A problem-free NGC VG10 sold at FUN for $2585.

And yes, it is a true R6.

2014 Redbook fully lists it as a recognized variety but their value in VG is like $900... seems low considering the last HA example at FUN (a VG-10) brought $2500 + if I recall. So that would infer to me that there is a decent market for the variety.

Edit to add- Oops. I apparently posted just as Lance did.

Any thoughts on the winner crossing the piece? Or does it matter given apparent scarcity of the variety? I think it's accurately graded at VG8.

Nice piece, I am an underbidder.

    And will probably remain so.

A very tough variety usually found in lower grades...would make a nice addition to any Draped Bust collection.
