I want to thank Mike at NER for giving me the opportunity of purchasing one of the most beautiful "Weed" Smoker tokens
I think that is out there.....it is so beautiful and highly preserved even though these were made for collectors there are quite a few out there
that are in a low mint state of preservation. It has beautiful deep pl fields with nice frosty devices.

I just love the pull away toning too!

This was a token owned by CRO and Mike had it held very tightly in his hands for a long time. Now he has let me be the caretaker of this one for
the foreseeable future. It puts the icing on the cake as far as my 1800's Pictorials go and am very proud of each and every coin
I have.

I think this completes a very nice cross section view of these incredible and often very rare part of our history.

I hope you enjoy the pic's as much as I do in my collectionimage

Thanks again Mike!!! You are a wonderful top shelf dealer and a great friend.

btw, Images by Todd.

    Wow, extremely nice.

How many examples of this token exist today?

It's the official token of Willie Nelson image. In all seriousness though, that is a beaut!

Supposedly for the Levick token there are 150 in brass, white metal, copper and very few in silver.
I used to own a silver but sold it.......It is very, very hard to find any in a high preserved state with eye appeal .

For E. Hill dealer I have seen only a handful and copper is only now being discovered as extremely rare with this
example the highest graded one I know of. And the toning adds the the great eye appeal .

Off hand I think there is:

    WoodGate & Co.
    J.N.T. Levick
    E. Hill
    Edwin Forrest

Can't think of any others, but Mike may chime in and add to the list.

As a side note......quite a few of the imaged token dies were done by Lovett Jr.

It's a superb example as NER was nice enough to let me finger it up right as he purchased it at CRO's table.

Struck in Copper all these Smoker's rank right up there with Silver as only the White Metal & Brass varieties are commonly seen.

    Hey everyone.

I know of 16 "varieties" of the smoker tokens throughout all the metals (so there are in theory 4 varieties with the E.Hill reverse, one in each metal) but many have never seen copper or silver of the other varieties so they may in fact not exist even though they are listed in the Rulau book.

I am very happy this piece found a great home!

Edited to add: For example, I have only seen one Forrest mulling, and that was in White Metal, though it is listed as existing in other metals. So the actual variety count may in fact be much lower.

Thanks for chiming in Mike and explaining the varieties .

There are ALOT here that could those words could be used for. For instance, take Type2, please! (BU-DUMB-DUMB)....He was the only one on these boards who had any of the '81 rounds made from the strategic silver supply. .So, he sends them to me, they get here in like 2 days. The errors were cool enough in their own right, for which T2 deserves a big enough T H A N K S ! (I wonder if I can get those slabbed, I have a PL example that would be tough to beat.....black, watery pond at the right light, but anyway.....

He sends me the Assay rounds (making no mention of them being errors) and, on top of the error StockpileAssay office rounds, and Type2 says he can help. Type 2 not only sends me 2 error Assay rounds a broadstruck and out of collar error...the errors were cool enough, but on top of that, he sends an 1891-P and 1876-CC Seated Lib quarter...no beaters here plenty of meat left on the bone, I'm guessing they are high AG to Fr02, maybe higher, but both quarters have the same 'look', so, bought myself a Dansco, and....I know it's unfinishable, what with the '01-S, but in that 'condition, I could get close to finishing.

So, here's a GENERAL SHOUT OUT, DAWGS! HERE'S TO THE FORUMITES THAT REALLY GO OUT OF THEIR WAY TO DO EXTRA COOL THINGS BY THE BUYER!!! So, again, T2, where this is an 'appreciation' post (man, I hope the language is that of EVERY great ban, which you no doubtlyyou deserve to be thanked in this thread, too? not a problem
    I'll come up with something.

Interesting that the weed token has 2 different merchants . Makes you wonder which one came first ? Are there other weed Token merchants or just these 2 ?
