PSA's new holographic foil flip backs. Is it necessary?

Part of the security updates PSA rolled out recently was to replace the silver foil on the back of the flips with holographic foil.

Was this necessary? It seems to me that all the fakes either erased and re-printed the front of legit flips, or faked the older flip style that had nothing printed on the back.

It looks cooler IMHO, but what does it have to do with security?

  • It just makes it even that much harder to fake a flip. Holographic printing is much harder to do.

Great that PSA added this to the flip. The more security the better. Why would you not want them to make it more difficult to fake anything to do with their slab.

I've got no problem with it. What'd really lock it down would be to somehow integrate the holo-foil into the front of the flip, since that's the part of the flip that gets tampered with. Maybe have the serial number in holo-foil or something like that.

  • Off topic, but has anyone seen the new $100 bills that were rolled out a few weeks ago. Personally, I think it looks really ugly w/ the holographic vertical stripe right down the center of the bill, and the back looks strange also. I guess it's more difficult to counterfeit, however.

Agree on the looks ... but if it helps cut down the counterfeiting it's worth it. I got one a few weeks ago ... if I didn't read about them first I would have thought the bill was no good!

Doug, those bills are no good. Send them to me to be destroyed and I will send you a $10 reward.
