ANACS grading vs PCGS , NGC

Saw an ANACS ad in the latest NN, giving a price of 10 coins graded for $ 125, with free return ship. How are ANACS grading standards compared to PCGS , NGC ?

I've found ANACS grading to be all over the board and clearly the market agrees as their grades carry relatively little weight price-wise. I've cracked out many ANACS coins and had them upgrade at PCGS as well as coins in ANACS details graded holders that have straight graded at PCGS. Of course, there are tons of ANACS coins that wouldn't cross anywhere near the assigned grade, if at all.
Basically, if your looking to add value to your coins and have their liquidity in mind, I don't think the money you save on the fees at ANACS is worth the trouble you'll have selling the coins down the road.
NGC and PCGS are considered top tier with PCGS resale just slightly higher than NGC for US coins. NGC holds a premium over PCGS for World Coins but I think that gap is lessening
<< <i>Old anacs very good. New anacs not so great. All ngc not so great. >>
<< <i>I like the holder photograhically >>
ANACS has the best acrylic for photography on all generations... Only the PCGS Rattlers come close.
As far as grading it's on a coin by coin basis which is the same for all third party services.
So you can find conservatively graded coins in the recent yellow slabs that will fair better at the top two.
And from Broadstruck: So you can find conservatively graded coins in the recent yellow slabs that will fair better at the top two.
That is also true, as bourse cherrypickers like me can attest to.
ALL TPG's suffer from grade variations and to think otherwise is just foolish. As it so happens, PCGS Graded coins do much better in the market than ANACS graded coins but that is all in market perception which pleases PCGS to no end.
Just remember this thread the next time folks are being critical of the assigned grade for a particular PCGS coin and you'll understand what I am saying.

<< <i>the resale market considers Anacs slabs the same as raw. >>
I disagree.
<< <i>Go try and sell an Anacs slab for yourself. >>
I have.
ANACS grading is stricter than NGC in my opinion.
The ANACS of Cap'n Henway days was not the same as the Amos ANACS, which is different than the Blue ANACS, which morphed into the Yellow ANACS. But the early yellow ANACS is actually quite different than the current Yellow ANACS….
you get the idea?
Not that they are a bad grading service at all, but there are some significantly different philosophies as well as obviously different grading teams operating at any given point in their timeline.
Assuming I agree with the grade on the holder, I do not normally discount ANACS coins. I may discount an ANACS coin if I feel it is low end in the grade range. I have cracked ANACS coins which all crossed at the same grade or upgraded at other TPG's. I think a lot of people, not really knowing how to grade will buy an ANACS coin, attempt to cross it, and possibly have it downgrade.
