New book - Authoritative Reference on Liberty Seated Dollars

The Authoritative Reference on Liberty Seated Dollars book by Kevin Flynn should be going to print around xmas. The plan is to only print the number of books that are ordered prepublication. If only 30 books are ordered prepublication, then only 30 books plus those books for individuals who helped will be printed. The book is 8 ½ by 11, 175 pages. Softcover $39.95.

The primary purpose of this book was to create a complete and comprehensive reference for the Liberty Seated Dollars series including all die varieties, history, collecting, historical documents, and hot topic such as the 1851 and 1852 proof restrikes, 1866 No Motto Dollars, rare date and mint marks such as the 1870-S Dollar, and early proof mintages.

The die variety section of the book includes 10 doubled dies, 7 misplaced dates, and 14 repunched date. Several more die varieties should be added by the time the book is published. For each die variety listed, detailed macro photos make identification much easier. Most of the varieties include multiple photographs showing different details. Included also for each variety is a detailed description of the variety, diagnostics, including die markers such as die cracks, scratches, clashes which can make identifying the variety easier, pricing, and cross references.

Many new archive letters were uncovered relative to the Liberty Seated series and are included. This greatly helped in the analysis of the history section and shed new details on the Liberty Seated series, especially for why the designs were chosen, changed and why it was terminated. Also included are archive letters regarding the hot topics which help add clarity.

The date-by-date section offers an analysis of each date including scarcity, striking characteristics, world history which occurred that year, hot topics, comments, current values, prices realized from Heritage Auctions, and the certified population counts from PCGS and NGC.

The Hot Topics section contains a several detailed studies on the Liberty Seated Dollars series including an analysis of: The 1851 and 1852 Dollar proof restrikes, understand why these were struck in later years and who had them struck; The 1866 No Motto Dollar, learn the history of these and when they were struck; Early proof counts, a complete analysis of the Liberty Seated proof struck before 1858, before official counts were kept; A complete analysis Liberty Seated proof counts, how several of the currently accepted proof counts are incorrect, see the correct counts.

The current plan is to only print the number of copies ordered prepublication. There is no current plans to offer these after they are printed. Retail for the softcover is $39.95. To order, send a check or money order to Kevin Flynn, P.O. Box 396 , Lumberton , NJ 08048. Please include $5 for media shipping or $10 for first class shipping. Please write if any questions at kevinjflynn88@yahoo.com. See other books available at www.kevinjflynn.com.

Going to print in two weeks, only having printed the number of copies that are ordered prepublication.

Right now probably about 50 copies will be printed.

I went through almost every archive record between 1835 and 1873, the history covers the entire Liberty Seated series for this period.

The 1851 and 1852 Restrike, and 1866 No Motto are covered in great detail as well as other hot topics.

    Book is 8-1/2 by 11, 200 pages

Will there be a Kindle version? Many of us are migrating (or have already migrated) from hardcover/paperback books to e-readers.

LOL, I do not even own a Kindle, am purely old school for hobby type books, like to sit down open a page and enjoy.

I have 13 of Kevin's books. They are worth getting. In fact, I would very much like to see limited numbers of hardcover editions available. The last book covering Seated dollars in some detail was a section of the Dave Bowers' encyclopedia, so I expect that this will be a useful addition to one's library.

    Thanks

I wish I could print hardbounds when I do limited printings, but my printers does not have that option. I can only do hardbounds when I do a full run

One of the individuals who buys each of my books said when I do not do a hardbound, he buys two, uses a local book place that can remove the cover and replace with hardbound cover.

Appreciate all of the responses, hopefully I will have the edits back this week and will be off to print next weekend, then it should take 4-5 weeks to print.

The archive records included cover all of the Liberty Seated series up through 1874 and also includes the Gobrecht Dollar archive records.
I believe they are all related and relevant. The choice was to be selective for each Liberty Seated book, or to be redundant, I thought it was better for the reader to
be inclusive. The history section also covers everything up through 1874.

Was down the Smithsonian two weeks ago to view and photograph their collection, was in awe in the 1840 proofs there.

    Thanks

Have you every given any thought to making digital copies? Yes, you'll have some theft, but you can stamp PDF files with the purchasers name (E-junkie.com provides a selling service that does that) which cuts it down and your profit margin is much, much higher and you are never out of stock.

Yes, have considered making electronic copies that are downloadable, I like the idea for reasons such as you state, and also can easily do updates, also I have full PDFs.
But chose not to as I lean toward the traditional, when I am reading a book that is hobby related, I like to to sit back with the book and read.
Also, like the idea of making a book that is a rarity kinda, not much of a profit, but after 45 books just trying something different.
Normally Kyle Vick publishes my books, but as I was unsure of the demand, did not want Kyle to be stuck with books if no demand.

I used to be at traditionalist myself. I thought I would never want to give up physical books. But, I have gone entirely the other way: I now ONLY buy digital and won't even accept free review copies any longer unless they are digital.

Oh, well: I'd like to own a number of your books, but there it is..

I am in a frothy frenzy, waiting for both of my copies of Kevin's Seated Dollars book. One copy will go straight to a bindery for a hardcover 'upgrade.'

I was told by someone else that they could have it done for $100, but it depends I guess on what type of new binding

Kyle Vick bought a few of the Liberty Seated Dollar books during the prepublication offer.
He will have a table setup in Atlanta this coming weekend at the ANA show and will have this book
and most of my other books there if you wish to see.
