NEWP: 1926-S Buffalo ... Pic of slab added

Couldn't pass this one up. Doesn't quite match the set, but selection seems to be somewhat limited on this date.

    Wow, that's nice.

I checked the prices and they're sky high for the grade I think it is.

I'm not that good on Buffalos but I initially thought ms64, but I'm probably way off.

keep in mind that Branch Mint Buffalo Nickels during most of the 1920's seem weakly struck.

The reverse on these are usually mush. Yours is better than most but your obverse shows some weakness. With the marks on the reverse, i am guessing 63. I looked at a lot of these before njcoincrank found me one that is pretty nice. Such a difficult date/mm.
Thanks for posting some nice Buffs recently. image

breakdown, what looks like the largest hit on the reverse(center of buff) actually appears to be strike related or planchet flaw. There is a hit on the upper leg that is somewhat hidden in the photo though. This will be a temporary filler until I find the perfect match for the set.

It really is a solid coin, I think and if that mark is mintmade, then it is 64 all day. I also think you'll have a tough time finding one much nicer unless you're willing to go $100K for a nice 65 -- there's only a couple of them that I have seen. Some of the 65s (I think there's only 12 of them) appear to have gotten an undeserved bump.

    For comparison, here is mine:
