I have a Puckett problem...and Gooden

I collect Puckett as well as the '84 Fleer Update set in high grade. Here's how it works. Buy '84 Fleer Update set to look for common cards in gem mint. Justify purchase by selling the big three cards and hoping to break even for the hunt. The problem is, I never sell my Pucketts. Honestly, I don't sell any of them and I have a similar stash of Clemens and Gooden, and these don't count the raw ones sitting around somewhere! I do not need all of these, but I can't seem to bring myself to sell any. Am I a hoarder?

Agree! I view good cards like stocks, you want to own as many shares as you can. Obviously this is a good card!

  • Ah Puck-ett
    Hoard all you want image
  • I would just say Puckett and move on.
  • I tried to Puckett once.
Didn't work out very well for me.
Did it work out any better for anyone else ?

Thanks Dpeck. It's a fun set...not too big, star power, a few condition challenges, and an iconic set from my childhood collecting years. I've been working on it slowly for a few years now and figure it will take a few more to close it out in all 10's, maybe more. I'm not in any big hurry, just grinding it out.

I bought the only set of these I ever owned in 2001 and it was a very proud moment. I had the Clemens and Puckett on display in large screw down holders until 2009 when finally I gave into my wife's requests to put them away. Little did she know that just a few years later I would have six cases of wrestling cards on the wall. LOL

This has to go down as one of the best sets from the 80's and was out of reach for many my age for much of our collecting years. I think it is great to see it put together in high grade.

I was thinking the same thing. lol the cards are awesome ..
  • If you want to feel less of a hoarder, you could sell the 9s and keep the 10s. image

Nice cards. No problem hoarding them. Now if you try to do this with the big three in the T-206 set, then that's the time you need to seek out help!

    Hoarder, indeed.

I have the same deformed gene.
I am buying and trading for RC's of Wilt Chamberlain, George Mikan, Bill Russell, Oscar Robertson, Jerry West, and Bob Cousy!
Don't waste your time and fees listing on ebay before getting in touch me by PM or at gregmo32@aol.com !
  • I think we all have it to some degree. If there's a card we like then the more the merrier.

It does seem to me that set builders have it a bit less. They need trade-able
or sell-able items to complete sets.
