does anyone alert the seller or just report the item to ebay ? seems to me that it is just as constructive to tell the seller, who may be more than just another ebay seller out to screw a collector.
regardless of how many posts I have, I don't consider myself an "expert" at anything

i always report them since there is no 100% way for me to know if they are doing it intentionally or unintentionally. also it puts a small ding on the record so that if it happens again and maybe again then the pattern will tell us there is a problem. if they don't do it again, no harm, no foul. it also takes care of the a-holes that just don't care but may not be doing it intentionally.
since they don't get their account restricted/narued after only 1 report, can't think of a single reason not to report. .
if a seller has a feedback score of 100% on 900+ transactions, (as this seller does) im willing to give the guy the benefit of the doubt. seller seems very gracious when I explained to him why the coins is fake, rather than just saying "yeah your coin is fake im gonna report your listing"

Dude jrob23 has 5000 + feedback at 100% and has been selling washed notes as original forever. I bet if you look at sure picks recent sales, you will find more fake coins that he will claim he was completely unaware of.
No, I never go directly to the seller. Two reasons. One, I can see from posts here that many sellers get huffy and defensive, even insulting (not all, I'll grant you). And two, I'd prefer to remain anonymous so there are no ugly repercussions. Lance.
seller was gracious enough to end the auction once i enlightened him on why i thought his was fake, so i will go on record, contacting the seller may be more constructive than reporting an auction that ebay may or may not cancel. he thanked me for taking the time to educate him. too bad more people here don't take the time to do something constructive.
