I would give it an XF, possibly an AU. The wing feathers appear to be worn, but it could be due to the lighting in your photo. The high points of George's hair and ear show just the slightest rub. If your coin shows the feather detail, it would probably be an AU.

I can be a little harsh on grading world coins but wouldn'rt want the '41 at higher than the VF price.

It looks like a good thumbing would bring it up to a decent XF but you can't be sure until it's done.

    I sure don't see AU.

I agree with 'kat. The British grading would make it VF.

    What does "thumbing" mean?

    Nice VF IMO.

It's got enough hair detail for a low-end XF, IMHO. To bump it to AU it would have to have more luster in the protected areas.

Strong XF technical details, but points off for the hits and toning anomalies on the bust... a bad place for them. Net VF/XF.

It works best with a little body oil but just pushing the thumb into the coin like you're trying to clean it
will give most copper coins a much more "natural" appearance. Coins that don't circulate attract cigarette
smoke and the like out of the air and "dirties" them in an unattractive way. A little oil under the accum-
    ulation will lift it off.

It can help almost any coin that has been out of circulation for a long time but is not recommended for
Uncs and tends to be most likely to help copper coins. You need to develop an eye for it because it will
hurt a few coins by making blemishes more apparent. Indeed, I'd be a little concerned about the '41
since the area under the ear might look worse.

The best you can hope for here is a low end (but solid) XF.

Thumbing can even lift off the apparent "corrosion" around the obverse lettering sometimes. Avoid thumb-
ing coin with luster. Acetone is the best bet for Uncs and AU's that need cleaning.
