What's the centering % on this Pete Rose card? What would BGS grade it? (PSA doesn't grade "pro

I've seen some posters here that are able to tell the centering on a card by using a pixel count I think.

Does anyone here that has that talent mind running the centering on this and seeing what it is?

THANKS!

Mike

Mike ... I have it slightly worse than 55-45 L/R. From where do they measure t/b?

Edited to add: I measured from the middle of the card (T/B) ... where the outline extends ... and got 52-48 T/B.

    Thanks Doug,

It's one that I know PSA won't grade because supposedly it's a "proof" card, but am trying to figure out what Beckett might grade it out as.

65/35 centering left to right. I think in a BGS slab it would get a 8.5 or a 9 IMO.

Doug had it right as slightly worse than 55/45 L/R. Unless it is my eyes, there seems to be a slight tilt which would affect your sample location. For practical purposes I measured at the midpoint of the card.

Math Lessone time: 22 pixels on the left and 16 on the right, as a fraction this is 22/16, you want it in terms of 100 so 22/16=x/(100-x), cross multiply, 2200-22x=16x, bring the variable to one side, 2200=38x, solve for x by dividing 2200 by 38(x=2200/38), x=58, plug that back into the original formula, 58/(100-58)=58/42

    20/18 T/B
    20/18=x/(100-x), 2000-20x=18x, 2000=38x, x=52.6, round to 53, plug it back in T/B is 53/47

Looks like it's already holdered, what was SGC's opinion?

Good deal, I did this for the first time in Photoshop and got 21/16, so I think I'm on the right track in being able to do this.

As for the math, just divide 22/38 and you get to 58 a little easier. image

It's SGC Auth (don't think they give a number grade to a blank back proof), as far as I know, Beckett is the only one that will give a number to it.

Awesome card! Is it on the regular cardstock or something special for the proof?

Not sure, I just bought it today on the B/S/T, I won't have in hand till next week. Have a 1968 Topps partial sheet color proof (includes the Ryan rookie) that is on a vinyl type material coming from REA Auctions that will be here next week too. I don't have a familiarity enough with proofs to know if they are all on that type or if some are cardstock instead. I'm an autograph guy mainly, not so much unautographed stuff like cards. I shouldn't go after things that I don't know a whole lot about, LOL, but every now and then something will trip my trigger that I think is neat and want to learn about.

Likely regular stock. The Ryan was unusual. All the proofs I have are normal, blank back, stock.

I actually have a complete 132 card 1964 proof sheet with Pete Rose and the Rose is clean. I have considered having it cut and sending to BGS as they are the only ones who will give it a numerical grade.
