New holders are out

Just got off the phone. The new holders are out. New standard size and the new thicker card
holders as well. The holders for thicker cards will house greater than .1 cm or 3 to 4 cards on top of each other. Jersey cards should fit in these to my understanding. Brick fat patch cards will still be put into pack holders. Stacey said its not posted on the site yet but soon.

I wonder if this is going to create more demand for cards in the new holders, similar to when they went from the older flips to the current ones? I am sure the newer holders are more secure, and I'm sure its going to create a lot of business for folks wanting cards put into the new holders.

As a collector I will not send any in to get new holders. As a shareholder I hope I am the only one who feels this way.

That was the first thing that came to my mind when I saw the thread title. Now just stay away from those cans. I HATE those cans!

Oh, great....now I have the sudden urge to run around banging a pot while yelling, "Oklahoma!"

    Thank you.

I wonder when we'll see our first pics/scans of the new holders?

I wouldn't be shocked if in a few years, people started developing the attitude of: "Any valuable card that COULD be reholdered will have been."

  • I thought it was said that the newer holders would lock into the old ones and barely look any different just be slightly more secure. Am I wrong. I would think it would alienate a big portion of there major dealers that have big collections in the now "old holders". Do you think there will be a special for getting your collection in the newer holders? Can you imagine the backlog that's gonna create!!!
  • The new holders are a solid upgrade. You shall see.

Thats a good question. Are the new holders going to lock into the old ones? It would be a lot of work trying to reholder my entire collection of slabs. Maybe it's already been answered in another thread if so i missed it. I am glad there is a better holder coming out but i couldn't imagine ungrading everything.

    Great!

So what was wrong with the old holders?
  • As long as they arnt completely different, still lock into the old ones and arnt larger or thicker. I for one don't like Beckett or SGC for set collecting because the holders take up touch space.

nothing really. so hereforthwith, they shall be known as vintage holders.

the newbs shall be known as modern holders.

not that it makes an iota of difference, but hopefully it will blossom into a large argument on Net54.
  • Does anyone know what the upgrade is? Larger? Thicker? I'm talking about the standard holder not one for special or thicker cards.
  • The new holders will lock and stack with the old holders.
The standard size and the thick card holder are the same dimensions 5 1/2 X 3 1/4 roughly.
The thick card holder will be a bit thicker. They will be shoe style lid covers. You won't be able to tamper
with these. There will be no more frosting because it will be completely destroyed.

Old PSA holders are subject to all the "is this frosty" or "does this flip look right" type threads.

This is what I had read previously, I was just concerned they dramatically altered the standard holder. If all they did us added the lid I'm all for it

I held an empty one at the National after the luncheon. Like previously said, they stack on the old ones, the only difference is the lid and that they will be able to hold the thicker cards. From my understanding, you will not have to send in your patch cards on a separate submission.

I received an order today and all the slabs were the newer style. They're definitely out and about for distribution.

So, it is not two pieces seemed in the middle but rather the top piece fitting into the bottom piece, with the seam closer to the top of the holder.

Looks like the old USA/Pro holder now, which were at least a lot harder to crack.

I guess there is some silver lining since my sub hasn't popped yet....I'll get the new style holder! image
  • I just got a few new holders tonight, only change I can see outright is the change or alteration to the PSA logo in back. It seems to sparkle rather than the dull silver color.
  • abcoltsfanabcoltsfan Posts: 802 ✭✭✭
Are they noticeably thicker? I have a graded card box that comfortably holds around 150 PSA cards. Curious if the new slabs will take up a lot of space and reduce storage options.

    Working on the following sets

I don't think you received the new holders. PSA has been putting the new hologram logo flips in the old holders for a few months.

Got a submission back today with the new holder.

Very pleased. They are Beckett style - larger top piece consumes the smaller bottom piece to create solid slab.

At a glance they are not distinguishable from the older holder.

++ stack as high as you want and they don't lean. So the level issue has been resolved.

++ flips lay flat in the holder. Wrinkled and warped flips (b/c they were too large for space) seem to be gone. Flips looked crisp and uniform.

Nice feel to them as well.

They are a little thicker. They do not fit in those blue and red plastic containers that you can buy through PSA.

Got some back yesterday. Must say I like the new patch holder, though some of the ultra thick patches will still be in cello holders. In fact I like them so much that I would consider reslabbing my patch cards if there was a decent discount rate. The cards fit more tightly in the new patch holders then they did in the pack holders. Don't have them flopping around anymore.
