Economical way of shipping graded packs?

Hi, I am looking for the most economical way to ship a single PSA graded wax/cello pack that is valued under $50. Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Tom

I ship all PSA graded packs in a box. If it's a wax pack, you should package the box very well and immobilize the pack as much as possible, to avoid the dreaded wrapper tear during transit.

  • I used to be in the packing business and this is what we would do if someone brought in something like that.

    1. Take 2 pieces of cardboard and place them over the front and back of the graded pack.
    2. Take plastic wrap and wrap the pack with the cardboard around it till it's tightly secured. I recommend going in both directions; front to back, right to left.
    3. Use small bubble wrap and wrap it around the pack, bubbles in, and then wrap that with plastic wrap tightly.
    4. Get a small box (roughly the size of a small security box that UPS uses).
    5. After taping the bottom of the box, put a small amount of packing peanuts to line the bottom. Do not use anything other than the styrofoam peanuts.
    6. Put the pack in the box, position in the middle and then pour more peanuts in to fill the box.

If that doesn't work, there's not much hope.

    Hope this helps.

USPS Small Flat Rate Box. It costs about $5.05 with the online discount, comes with DC and it's already insured up to $100 for no extra charge.

That is kind of what I was thinking. I was hoping there was a l ess expensive way so I could offer free shipping. Thanks for all input.

Every pack I've gotten from you has arrived safely Tim. But when you think about the loose gum issue, it may actually be best NOT to immobilize the pack completely.
The gum can't be immobilized if it's loose, so immobilizing the pack only insures the gum will move relative to the pack. If the graded pack is placed within packing
peanuts, so it's protected but can still move somewhat if the box is jarred, that may actually cause less RELATIVE motion of the gum within the pack.

Just a thought. But it's probably moot, if the gum is loose in a PSA slab, it will likely move no matter what precautions are taken.

That's true in the sense that the gum is loose in the holder, but in almost every case where I had a pack arrive damaged, it was shipped in a bubble envelope. I think that using a box with plenty of peanuts to prevent the pack from being bounced around in its package, will help preserve it during transit, at least as much as possible.
