PSA/DNA Cut Auto Advice Requested...Andre The Giant auto's..

I recently purchased two Andre The Giant autographs.

Here is the first autograph.

Here is the second autograph.

I want to send these auto's in to PSA/DNA and I have a few questions.

First would it be wise to clean up the edges on them. As you can see the first came from some kind of a binder and the second has a paper tear on the top left corner. On one hand I can see it making sense to use my paper cutter and make them smaller and on the other hand I can see it being viewed as altering their current state.

Second a few collectors I have spoken to said that they have done pieces where they place a cut auto on a photo and get it slabbed that way. I looked on EBAY a few moments ago and had little success in my brief search finding anything that would be a good example. Does anyone have any examples they could share with me?

Finally if there are any comments or suggestions in general of things to do with them please share your thoughts with me if you don't mind.

Thank you.

Can you take a few measurements for me? I'd like to see what the "box" would be to create a matte for these autos.....

Of the auto's or the paper they are signed on?

    The dimensions are as follows.

    First auto: paper 4 5/16 by 5 1/8, auto 3 1/2 by 3 1/4

    Second auto: paper 4 1/16 by 5 7/8, auto 2 7/8 by 3 7/16

I think these 1978 cards are too small for your autos....5 by 3 3/8. This was one I thought could have been nice for a custom creation....

Hey Dave ... when I get an auto like that I enjoy having someone make a custom card for me. Below is my favorite that Doran (no longer on the board) made for me. For comparison, the auto itself is 5.5" x 2.5" and the card is 10.5" x 7.5"

Best of luck with whatever you decide to do. Show us the end result.

EDITED TO ADD: The auto was on the inside cover of the paperback, "THE MICK".
    STAY HEALTHY!

    Dave,

Send them to a board member named Knuckles and let him create and run with it. He makes some gorgeous custom cuts. I've had him do both a JFK and Ty Cobb for me.

Doran also makes some nice ones but I don't see him post anymore on the board and don't know if he is still in the hobby.

Chuck, aka boardmember TheHun also does a nice job of custom creations.

I would trim them down to fit in a standard PSA/DNA blue flip. Personally not a fan of custom cut designs.

My choice would be a custom and my second choice would be to trim to fit a standard size holder, of course with two of them you can do both if you desire.

I wouldn't touch the borders. First, the small tear on the bottom, and the holes on the top, do not affect the value in any way. I'd probably send them into PSA as-is and just have LOAs (no sticker om the item) done up. If you're looking to sell them later on, let the purchaser decide how to matte them up. Plus, you will be preserving some extra space for matting by not trimming them.
