Evening everyone who's up and waiting for Tim to post his rip.
I won't bore anyone with the manufacturers and hunt to ascertain the approximate dates.
I didn't even realize how many of these things I had. I just noticed after picking up a bank that I had quite a few.
It probably started when I picked up a bank that's also a BB game:
Besides the 'generic' version, there's the "Sealtest - Rosie Rosewell" copy that - based on where Rosie broadcasted - puts it in the Pittsburgh area. Rosewell was the voice of the Pirates and was succeeded by Bob Prince.
And then there was the Louisville Slugger Bats.
These are from the 60s and have the original packing sleeves.
One is a player bat version while the other - NL team bats.
And let's follow those up with "milk glass globe" banks sponsored by Mobil Oil:
I currently have two - Braves and Tigers:
And let's not exclude "Bank" banks:
These were rolled out in both "team" and "team player" versions:
And another unintended consequence to game collecting is finding companion pieces that are related to the products that made both the game and the bank:
1954 Braves - Northern Bank - Milwaukee, Wisconsin - a more recent addition.
Sigs include:
Fred Haney
Ed Mathews
Andy Pafko
Johnny Logan
Bob Buhl
Warren Spahn
Danny O'Connell
Joe Adcack
Bob Thompson
Del Crandell
Most conspicuously missing? Hank Aaron. I thought - perhaps - that this ball was from 1953 but Danny O'Connell was with Pittsburgh that year.
Chase National Bank
The one thing I can say about the age is based on the name - Chase National changed to Chase - Manhattan in 1955. So this is older than 1955, I would guess.
I've seen these come up from time to time with different banks around the country and have yet to see it with a base. I'll be looking. It's well made - appears to be baked enamel on metal. Also, I wonder what's the significance of the serial number? Safe deposit box number - so a premium for taking one out?
And secondly, as I had said, I realized that all of these banks - most likely came with a base and not just a "cap" as a base.
So, this is definitely an upgrade for the Braves - Mobil Logo "milk glass" Bank:
These banks are very affordable and IMO fun to collect. And, I've already saved 12.52 in coins!
Just wanted to add - how many of you have a safe of some kind? After all these years, I've finally added one - but that sucker weighs 400 lbs!
Organizing stuff is work - I'm the Prince of Procrastination! So, I promised my wife I would spend the winter "doing" rather than talking about it. I'm sure I'm not alone on this one.

Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

No Doug - my 63F set is in there also.
Hiya Ralph - it would seem I do but not really. How I find these items is when I do a general search for games, I find some of these items. And these things are so reasonably priced and cool, I just can't resist. Also, I now have a safe!
Thanks for sharing ------ Sonny

Thanx! What a great item. Have never seen it before.
Thanx Sonny and Eric - very kind.
I love the bat banks. Where do you find these items?
Nice collection. Very unique. Now, you just need a bank with Ernie Banks on it and you will have a Banks bank.

Great thread. Here is another color version of the famous sluggers bank.
Here is one that I have (blue w/real wood bats). Came from my Father who picked it up at the Hall of Fame when he was a kid (early 60's)...

Hey Bobby - thanx - all from ebay - as I had said earlier, I find these while searching for baseball board games under a more generic search.
Thanx Mike - that bank is a nice one and I believe a favorite with collectors. Your dad gave you a keeper!
Here's another - Philadelphia Phillies
Not sure of the age - perhaps 50s/60s.
I would guess this is a 50s/60s bank from Ohio Arts.
Love those bat banks! Thanks for sharing!
<< <i>Love your collection Mike. You prove that there are many cool items to collect beside cards out there. Always awesome to see your stuff. Doug >>
Thanx John and Scott.
Hiya Doug - this is so true. I was - years ago - just a card guy. I found other stuff to really enhance the collecting experience.
I find it way more fun to only collect maybe 1 or 2 sets at a time and focus on other areas like board games - which is my all-time favorite!
On that note - I'm overdue for a write-up on my collecting experience - I even know what it will be: the "promo" card craze.
Very nice
Like to add another.
The cool thing about these is they display nicely, like autographed baseballs. Some of the 50s team balls and if you can find, All-Star banks go for a bit of change compared to these.
The First National Bank of Cincinnati - 1960s
Cincinnati Red Legs
Home Run Bank - United Cerebral Palsy
This is another 'milk glass' bank - probably from the 60s or 70s.
My take? Make a certain donation and this premium is sent as a thank you.
To be honest, no direction, but...

Cincy Reds - Security Savings - 1950s/60s
I'll date this ball from 1959 to 1964 - based on Fred Hutchinson (Mgr) being on it (dates of his tenure):
And here's the temporary home for some of them while I decide how to display them:
As a Reds fan and a Bank Examiner I must say those are right in my wheel house. I wish they still made them today, I would much rather have one of those than a calendar or pen.

Me too Barry!
I bank at Wells Fargo in SA. A bobbin head tribute to the Spurs - e.g. - would be much cooler than a coffee cup with their logo!

Haven't updated this thread in some time.
I found this one by accident - it's about as good condition as one is gonna find for something that was made in the 50s-60s.
Of interest - the logo is from very early teams but the bank is more than likely 50s.
According the history of Reds logos - this one is from the early 1900s.
1950s Reds/Mobil Bank
These are called "milk glass" banks. The problem with many of them is that they're missing the plastic base - this one was intact.
and the Mobil logo:
Pittsburg Pirates Premium of The Lee County Bank
This bank came out of the estate of a recently deceased ML BB player which I'll be doing a thread later on - I hope some will find it interesting - I've got a few pieces from the player besides the bank.

<< <i>Great Thread, Mike. I enjoy your memorabilia. >>
John!
<< <i>Very cool. How many banks do you have all together now ? >>
Hiya Dave - about 20.
<< <i>I used to have this about 35 years ago, no idea where it went?? >>
Where all my CRAP goes Kirk...into an OfficeDepot box? I wind up having too many "accidental" collections I guess.
1950s Brooklyn Dodgers Baseball Coin Bank
The players:
Walt Alston - Mgr
Sandy Amoros
Jr. Gilliam
Gil Hodges
Johnny Podres
Carl Furillo
Duke Snider
Roy Campanella
Ransom (Randy) Jackson
Don Newcombe
Based on the players - Randy J. played from '56 to 58 - so that's the key to dating the bank.
The First National Bank and Trust Co. - premium.
I just got a glass ball - the first with no logos - but it's not in yet.
Thanx for viewing.

<< <i>Hiya Mike! These are awesome. Keep'm coming >>
Thanx John.
How's it going?
This month has been slow for me. Looking forward to no longer being a boss!
Got a generic glass baseball from the same company who makes most of these coming. Plus, as I've alluded, I think I finally have my baseball game "whale." It was delivered to the office today but no one there - so I'll have to wait till Monday.
<< <i>Nice stuff Mike. >>
Thanx Steve.
How's it goin?
I'm doin pretty darn good.
First, I noticed that a bunch of my scans are gone - I'll have to fix that tomorrow.
Chicago Cubs baseball bank - a premium giveaway at the stadium August 9, 1994 as written on the box by the recipient.
They lost 3-2 to San Francisco and lost 8 of their last 9 games. Ya gotta respect Cubs fans.

I noticed some of the banks that I posted are gone?
Will have to check and see what happened.
It's been a long time since I picked one up.
This one is from the Crocker National Bank in San Francisco - probably the year they got to SF from NY.
After 116 yrs with many name changes, the bank was sold to Wells Fargo Bank.
Wow Mike, that's a lot of banks! I did not see this thread the first time around.
Thanks for showing them.

Hiya Donato.
Thanx buddy.
Wish there were others who collected what I do.
What do most of the banks seem to be made of. Plastic?
Correct.
There's also a group of "milk glass" banks and more rare "tin" - from Japan.
