Why did Topps do this on 1972 Topps football ?

Check out the football on this card

Now check out the football on the Bradshaw

Now check out the football on the Hadl

I know it's a licensing agreement of some sort, but why the football ? Is this done in other years as well ?

Nothing wrong with the Hadl. The NFL used an incomplete white stripe for a couple of years there. You can see it on the Bob Griese card, as well.

With the Wilson, it looks like they've scrubbed the NFL shield and the commissioner's signature.

The Bradshaw has puzzled me for years. I can't begin to explain that one. Maybe he was holding a loaf of bread or something.

Topps was not licensed by the NFL until 1982 I believe. And the AFL used balls with a white stripe.
