    .
always post an obv and rev pic.

the clashing looks like the rays from the rev as well as 1-2 of the leaves based on my overlay

Looking for Top Pop Mercury Dime Varieties & High Grade Mercury Dime Toners.
  • i appreciate your answers but i did not ask about a value for the coin or the coins condition. I am interested in the clashed die issues. The pics were also edited to show the clash marks better FYI.

corrected the answer. Honestly, that really is a harshly cleaned coin, and the imaging doesn't/won't help get any better answers. The images almost look like images made to make the coin look nicer.

PMD, harshly cleaned, and value of melt will be the consensus answer. Hope you bought this for little/no premium, especially if you based your purchase solely on the die clashes.

If you have 'customers', I think a few books are in order....it might help you AND your customers down the road. Also, I'm sure your customers would like to see knowledge in more than just Buffs, dimes, and (I forgot what the 3rd series was, but you mentioned your major series were those 3), as you explained in your thread about your friend/customer (?) bringing you, and wanting to trade, for his '93-S, which was fake. VAM's on Morgans and Peace, boy, that's something you just can't dive into, you have to do your homework. When the VAM guys here whip out an answer, believe me, it's engrained in their heads, but takes tons of work to retain the info.
    I'll come up with something.
  • no investment other than melt at 15.00 because of the obvious condition I picked it up because I wanted to know about the clash. The customer on the morgan was no friend and never woulds be especially after giving me a fake!

Good that there was no premium. Start buying some common dates, see if you can find any VAM's (Morgan or Peace), then, after you've lernt a bit, actively seek them out. That's what I'm doing. With a few years of the Peace not being too expensive, I pick them up, and am doing just what I said. Try to pick yourself, if none, after you've gained knowledge, seek them out on a level higher than ebay.
    I'll come up with something.

  • thank you for the link it will be very helpful. I have a shop here in town I pick very often, service sucks but the staff know very little. I have gotten some nice errors from them and they have these little buckets of coins that they sell and they just toss stuff in them. They have no interest in error coins at all. They list all 22 no D Lincolns the same and have no idea about the different die states. Anyway I will look else where for this one as I could not find anything on it at VAM world again thanks for the help.

That thing is so messed with it looks fake.
  • that was a concern also but it has been cleaned oh i don't know 100 times or more lol . I thought the die clash was neat thats why I got it not about the value but it's about the clash. I did edit the photos to show the clash better. What is crazy is the coin does exhibit a strong cart wheel on the obverse but the surfaces are mirror like ?
  • NotSureNotSure Posts: 2,979 ✭✭✭
There are no mirrors on that piece. 'Shiny' does not equal proof-like or 'mirrors', and that's what you see, the coin 'shiny'. This coin looks like it was buffed after a good scrubbing with a Brillo pad.
    I'll come up with something.
  • yep buffed to a high shine lol makes it easier to signal planes whaen you are lost in the wilderness right?

Catch the sun just right, you'd blind a pilot at 30,000 feet! image
    I'll come up with something.
  • thats why I do not allow the coin to be in direct light, I am affraid it will start a fire in the house lol I'm still trying to track down the die clash not much luck on this date kind of a bummer.

it looks wickedly cleaned and polished from here.
  • well winter is on it's way here in Wisconsin so I thought it would help people find me in the snow and it could also be a reflective mirror for a death ray laser in the future.
