OT: Comic question

Ran into some 70s comics with Star Wars #1 issue today along with a few other #1s I wasn't familiar.

Who is the PSA of comics?

Thanks,

David (LD_Ferg)

  • CGC is the one to go with. The collectable grades start at 9.2 then go 9.4, 9.6, 9.8 and rarely 10. Price roughly doubles for every .2 increment (9.4 worth twice as much as 9.2) except 10's which will have their own pricing.
  • I purchased a 600+ comic collection a few years ago. I got them for an offer I could not refuse (he needed crack, so he took my offer).

Most comics in the 1970's I think I sold for 3-5 each on ebay. They were mostly super hero. I did find the comics I thought were junk had the best value. I found some comics called Warewolf, I think I sold 12 for $90.

If you know nothing about comics, only buy if they are cheap. I'm not a comic collector, so I got them all for $150. I knew I would not loose money.

    Couple of other things:

There is also a grade 9.9 which is rarely assigned

CGC 10s are MUCH rarer than their PSA counterpart. 9.8 is really the highest grade to reasonably pursue

CGC unfortunately does not penalize for production issues, so there are a lot of ugly miscut 9.8s to stay away from

Thank you. Checked out the site. Definitely seems like a high price for grading them. I'm too used to cardboard. image

These were in my collection. I've moved in the last year and I found them in a box. I forgot I had them.

This is an interesting thread. For CGC does a "yellow pages" distinction correlate to a PSA grade with a qualifier?

No, every comic is rated as to its page quality: white, off-white, cream, etc.

There are qualified grades for books with an odd defect like a missing staple. These get a green label instead of blue. Books with restoration get a purple label.

  • Well they do have to hold a comic lol
Like Paul says the collectible grades for those Star Wars books are 9.2 and up, especially for the 2-4. 1 in 9.2 is sti a really solid book.
Check the price box. Most likely it's a 30c copy but if they are 35c copies... Jackpot

Send me a scan or a pic and I can give you a grade on what it would be or close to it of you sent it in the CGC.
I've got almost 25k posts over on the CGC board and was very active in collecting comics for the last 10 years or so.
