Overton-Parsley 3rd Ed. sells for nearly $300.00 on eBay

Weren't these fetching $50-$60 earlier this year? I bought one identical to the one sold in this auction on eBay for $40 last year.

I know the seller states his copy is "brand new", but if it isn't being sold in a plastic sleeve, I'd buy it as "used".

So is this really what they're selling for these days, or was this a fluke? If it wasn't, I might have to seriously start thinking about investing in coin books image

image I think it's only the 3rd edition that's in high demand. Although, I've used the 4th edition and it's really not much different than the 3rd, and in some cases offers more info than the 3rd edition does.

3rd is the best and is worth a premium over the 4th, but not $300. Somebody was in a hurry to get one. Remember, a lot of BHNC guys prefer the 3rd and they wear theirs out, so the supply will dwindle over time. If I used mine a lot, I'd have it leather bound for wear protection, if the prices get up that high and stay there.

  • I'm pretty sure it was a one time bidder war, but prices have risen, though not to the drastic $300 dollar levels. I've been seeing the 3rd go for $90-110ish and the 4th in the $60-80 area on ebay.

Mine was $50 in excellent shape with mylar library cover from AbeBooks. $300 is a bit shocking, IMHO.

Mine is copyright 1967. Which one is that?
    When in doubt, don't.

Well, I think if people got more creative with the key words they enter into the search bar, they could find copies on eBay that would otherwise go unnoticed. Like this one, where the seller didn't even include the author or edition in the title - I simply typed "early half dollar" in to the search bar - and it sold for a reasonable price.

So, just something to keep in mind for whomever might be looking for a copy. Always lookin' out for ya image
