Newman Collection / Heritage Auctions

Those from the numismatic community who have viewed the Newman coins being offered by Heritage next month are understandably astonished by their rarity and quality. But we’ve also learned that many potential bidders have wondered whether or not the coins selected for auction are the finest for their respective Types and Issue, or if there is a large quantity of Newman duplicates waiting to be sold at some later date. We have discussed these questions with the representatives from EPNNES and they have provided the following response:
Over several decades, Eric P. Newman donated his coin collection, in its entirety, to EPNNES. Almost every silver Type coin owned by EPNNES (other than low-grade silver bullion) is being offered for sale in next month’s auction in New York. EPNNES has retained a silver Type coin set, including a 1794 dollar, for the Newman Money Museum in St. Louis. The coins being offered in November are superior to these examples retained for the Museum’s educational and research purposes.
In other words, bidders on the Newman coins can proceed knowing that the coins being offered by Heritage next month comprise virtually all of the Eric P. Newman silver Type coins and represent the very best from EPNNES.
We look forward to your participation in this very special event!
Note: Items being sold are from the extensive collection of Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society (a Missouri not-for-profit corporation) and have been assembled over a period of 90 years. Proceeds of the sale of all items will be used exclusively for supplementing the Society's museum operations and scholarly research efforts and for the benefit of other not-for-profit institutions selected by Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society for public purposes.
