And its listed under seated quarters.
  • if you enlarge the pic you can see a printer matrix around the printed letters what the heck this coin is a 40000.00 dollar coin or am I wrong? at least thats what past sales at Heritage state
  • Scary, but the only thing I see in the bar code is under the 6 in the cert #. The one on NGC has a little skinnier of a bar code line. The orientation is off a little also, really noticeable on the reverse, compared to the NGC photo in relation to the mounting tabs. Notice the location of the decimal at the end of "ONE DOL". I suppose it's possible the coin may have rotated but not likely in that kind of a holder. The band at the bottom of the front label is a little different too but could be camera angle, lighting, etc. It's hard to see if the "NGC" logo is in the upper part of that band. Can see it in the lower part of the band. image I don't know enough to comment on the coin. YET.

Yeah, I'd true-auction that puppy with no reserve if I owned it. image What' the worst that can happen- lose $75k or so?

There are two possibilities I see here.

    1) Unusually sophisticated scammer, who actually knows the word "salient" and doesn't type in ALL CAPS.

    2) It's a legit collector/dealer under a pseudonym, but an army of shill bidders will show up on the last day to make sure the coin goes for red hot retail or better.

The images and text are copied straight from the web, for a coin that sold in 2012:

3)You forgot hijacked account. The member ID carrying this listing has a history as a buyer only, who has been inactive as a buyer for several months.

If I am not mistaken, I believe I saw this coin at the NCNA state Show In Greensboro. They were asking 22k

If somebody wants to ask, and the seller will divuldge, as them if they purchased this from (NCNP) CPM- Stoneville, NC if so, I am betting its a legit ebay listing

  • jdimmickjdimmick Posts: 9,752 ✭✭✭✭✭
    In fact,
Ill call NCNP tomorrow am and ask them if they sold it while they attended Long Beach, and report back here.

The "Long Beach" in the auction text is not Long Beach 2013.
Try Long Beach February 2012 or earlier.
See my post above - this coin sold on ebay in June 2012, and the entire text description and images were copied from the archived listing that I linked.

If NCNP had it at a recent 2013 show, then the earliest they could have bought it was on ebay June 2012.
  • Reeeeaaalllyy.. He's never sold?? Ever?? If his account was hijacked, how does a sold listing slip by you?

Highjacker had not yet been caught? Found an active (inactive) account that was ripe for
the pick'n. Seems whoever bought that 1892-o will be very upset.

blacksmoke, obviously you didn't read the post two places above your 1st response in this thread, where AuandAg already obtained a factual response from the true owner of the account. Like we both suspected, the account was hijacked. The 1892-O Morgan didn't show up in the member's feedback because it was listed by the hijacker and certainly never was delivered to the high bidder. image

  • coinduece, actually I did read that and that's when I checked his fb because just 2 posts above your first post, AUandAG brought up the possibility of it being stolen. If that was a possibility (valid one at that), then wouldn't you look into things closer rather than just take his word for it that he's never sold anything? Made sense. I've always thought that a hijacked account is a "hit it once and disappear" thing, not be used for more than one scam, at the risk of being caught. Also, if you read my last post, after I found out about the Morgan, I merely asked if an account was hijacked, how does a sold listing slip past you? Just a question. And a valid and appropriate one at that. image

" I've always thought that a hijacked account is a "hit it once and disappear" thing, not be used for more than one scam, at the risk of being caught."

You always thought wrong. image If an account owner has been idle for an extended period of time, which is the typical target of a hijacker, then a hijacker could continue to use the hijacked account for phony sales for as long as it takes the negative feedback to pile up or enough alerts by victims to eBay authorities. image

There is nothing truly factual about an email.
    There are several possibilities:
    1. Email is true - it is from the original ebay account holder, and the account was hijacked
    2. The email is from the hijacker
    3. The email is from the original account holder, and the account was not hijacked. I.e. the original account holder is trying to do the fraud, but claiming someone else hijacked the account.
  • Thanks for the clarification. See, now I know! image

Just another dipped seated dollar to create a DCAM/UCAM rarity. Probably looked pretty nice before the dipping.
Hopefully for the real owner it stays that way.
