Do NGC black slabs command the highest premium of any obsolete slab?

    The first generation NGC slab is very rare. After it first came out, collectors and dealers complained about them and NGC quickly changed them. The NGC logo was on the front of the slab and the label with the date/mintmark and grade was on the back of the slab which meant dealers had to add their own label to the front or display them in their case with the reverse side up. Putting the NGC logo on the front of the slab was the idea of some marketing genius who didn't understand the coin business. Also, dealers complained that brown copper didn't look as good with the black background. Soon after NGC redesigned their slabs many of the original first generation slabs were reholdered and the surviving population is now quite low.
