Post a post

from the past that is worth sharing with newer members. Now that the search function is working better
it's worth "to the top"ing some threads you found informative, interesting, or just plain funny.
Rob790's 2004 post about toning progression on coins was a good one.
(Brandon's new website has an article by Sunnywood on the same subject specifically with silver.)

but I decided to put it up as a reminder to all who buy/sell on eBay (or any web site) what can
happen if you aren't a believer in the phrase "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is." Even with
due diligence in research and contact, there can be a empty wallet at the end of it.
After you read the post and responses, come back and read this follow-up to finish the thread. Link
I did all the filing with the appropriate local, state and federal offices (including eBay) in my
attempts for a refund and making this guy pay in legal ways. Not one single agency
(as far as I know) took it any further then my complaint. I was never contacted by a single one for
the disposition of my case(s) or for further info to continue with it. My attempts with calls and emails
to "keep it alive" were met with "it is still being investigated". Robert of Kip's Coins in Hawaii
either sold his store or went out of business but I never received any news from him in his
attempts for a refund.
Bottom line...I never got a refund. Not even a partial refund thru eBay. I still have copies of
all the paperwork I filed, emails I printed, list of contacts names & numbers with dates. Now, every
time I see a "I want it" coin anywhere, I keep my enthusiasm (and money) in check by remembering
this incident. From this one "hiccup", I made a sign that has been over my PC for the last 9+ years. Can
you guess what it says?
If it sounds too good to be true, it is." I crossed out "probably" on purpose!
I also wish to thank all the members from back then who are either still here or gone for their support
and hope this post doesn't offend anyone who decides this was not in the vein of the OP intentions.
And to stay with the OP, here is a excellent post from ATS that I think should be required reading
for every Jefferson nickel collector. ***
