Must be a fair amount of interest as it appears the website is now down.

No one is madder about these glitches than I am. Oh, which website are we talking about again? image

Perhaps we could treat the televised meeting like the Hunger Games and buy the participants something they need to survive the session.

And if they were an elephant in a tutu, they would be more amusing.

    Fortunately, both points are irrelevant.

There was no discussion of their 401k plan.

By hiring 401 squared they added a layer of unnecessary fees.

How so? Because we are in the 401k business and I know how this bidding works.

Would you care to disclose what totla fees 401 squared2 is charging the ANA ?

We solicited bids from three different companies. There was not a material difference in the cost between the plans.

ANA cannot manage their own 401k plan -- an outside company is needed to handle that for us.

    Umm.. that would be me.

Driving to the ANA HQ, I was about a tenth of a mile behind this.

The accident shut down all lanes of I-25 both northbound AND southbound. After about 90 minutes, there was enough room for me to turn around and drive a quarter mile back to the nearest entrance ramp to exit the highway.

If you were Active Duty Military your excuse would land you another demerit on top of being late/no-show in the first place..just saying, you just got re-elected; find a way to represent your office and get there first image

Well, I'm not active duty military... and if that 1 in a million scenario would give someone two demerits... I think there's something wrong with the military. Two or three other ANA staff members were caught in the aftermath of the accident. Lucky for them, they had an exit to get off at before the accident and were not trapped between the accident and an exit.

Seriously, how many times does an interstate highway in the middle of a mid-sized city get shut down in both directions for over an hour?!? If I had left five minutes earlier.. or five minutes later, I wouldn't have gotten stuck. Unfortunately in this case I did.

Seriously, I live in Southern CA and so does PCGS, we see interstate highways/freeways stuffed like a Thanksgiving turkey all day and every day. I have no beef with you sir, just thought is was a mistake for one of the ANA governors to be absent for such a public event. It's a bad beat like losing a big hand at poker or a large sum on a football game at a Vegas sportsbook, in the end, it may not be your fault but it's still action lost... You chose to run for re-election and won, so act like a Boss and be the early-bird next time around IMHO image

P.S. The feed on video was so bad I couldn't see anyone but Mr. Ellis and a few others. I listened to it in full. As an ANA member and an eligible voter in the upcoming election, I was looking forward to watching the meeting (with all the recent hype). I understand you guys/gals are not getting paid for what you are doing but if Numismatics is your true passion, that should not slow you down.

...well in that case my Friend...just to keep it on topic (Numismatics), you got screwed by PVC damage....like so many others in the hobby image

just make sure you wash all that PVC off your hands before you go and handle the ANA Treasure image

  • Thanks for the link. I found it interesting, especially Laurie's comments on putting some life back into the ANA show.

I used to live in SoCal and drove 50 miles in rush hour to work (and 50 miles to get back home) M-F. Although "all day and every day" is a bit of an exaggeration, traffic's a pain in the ass to be sure. But in the more years than I care to remember that I made that drive, never was I caught in a situation like GregL described.

One thing I'd like to know is why the ANA Convention moves around (in time) so much:

    In 2014, it's August 5 - 9
    in 2015, it's August 11 - 15
    in 2016, it's August 9 - 13

It seems to me that it would be easier for collectors to attend if the ANA Convention were held the same week every year.

I'm guessing that is pretty tied up with convention center availability and rates.
