Now that I am $175 deep into this group rip.....

What do most of you guys do with your packs? Open them in hopes of finding a Hall of Famer? Save them as an investment? Add to your personal unopened collection? I know that people have their own goals, but I would like to hear the plans that some of you folks have for your packs and boxes.

For loose cellos/racks, I look for visible stars/HOFers -- if they aren't there and the cards don't look destroyed, I bust, otherwise they get put into 'the collection.' (star/HOF packs eventually get sent to PSA)

For loose wax packs, I am usually busting for the sake of busting.

Boxes usually remain sealed and go into 'the collection.'

  • I would love to tell you that I am holding onto them without opening. That would make a lot of sense. But alas, a full pack in my hands is like putting a full pipe in a crack addict's hands. I have honestly lost my butt money-wise in these rips, but I still keep coming back for more. I don't know whether to call myself excited, pathetic, or both. But it is mostly both I think.
I'm a big Nolan Ryan fan OK???!!!

I do both. It depends upon the pack, cost, possible return of investment, etc. While in the past I was a total "it must be opened" fiend, I have reeled that urge in considerably and am able to exercise restraint for packs that I feel not only look cool, but may be good investments.

I will be keeping mine sealed, as I have become an predominantly an unopened collector in the last 6 months. I will rip the 2 1982 Topps baseball wax packs that I have coming.

Mine will go into my unopened collection. I may open the packs with my son when he's older someday but I would imagine the boxes stay unopened for the long haul.

So, when does this group rip start? I want a pack of '89 Topps

I am starting to think that this whole "Group Rip" may be a misnomer. You guys really need to start ripping and posting!

Don't forget to add RARE to the title. image

Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.
  • For the first time in my life I'm going to try and keep them sealed. I expect this to last about as long as the 75 baseball lasted on this offer.

I grade and save most of the hot packs--'75s, '76. Mostly all cellos get graded.
I do rip. got a PSA-9 Marino 3 rips ago. Got a nice Elway rookie from last rip--definitely a 9.
    usually rip post '80s stuff
  • I open each pack carefully, preserving the wrapper for my man cave Bar top I will build someday.
Then I look at the top card, put the stack down, take a 5 min break then look at the second card. I repeat this until I am through the cards then I loupe each one for 10 mins. I write down the sequence. Then I sleeve and card saver each card.

    ...what?

I save everything for my collection. Sometimes I leave the BBCE box sealed, but this time I am just adding to my unopened collection of boxes and packs. I may grade a few here and there but most will be an inheritance to my kids (who will prolly sell everything before I'm cold).
    CURRENT PROJECTS IN WORK:
To be honest, no direction, but...
    1966-69 Topps EX+
1975 minis NrMt Kelloggs PSA 9
    All Topps Heritage-Master Sets

As Flyer fans would say: Leight.

You get points but mlbfan2 gets credit for beating you to the joke. With his post, you had to infer the reference to the "New Pet Peeve" thread. Your post just put it right out there.

Regardless: Witty Wilde...very witty. (Monty Python reference, btw)
