Variation Identification

Hi, new member here. I have a question about a 1991 Topps Nolan Ryan #1 card and I was told that this forum could be the place to come to find reliable information.

The card in question is not a Tiffany card (not white card stock, no glossy coating on the front) nor is it a Dessert Shield (no emblem). The front appears to be normal for card #1:

The back is where my question arrises:

No red ink at all. I have searched the web looking to see if there are other variations of either this card or others with this variation, however, nothing has turned up. Can anybody here shed some light on this card? Thanks in advance for any help!

I don't recall if I have one from 1991 but backs that lack all ink or colors, or have too much, pop up regularly

It would have come out of regular 1991 Topps. As mentioned above it is a card that Topps missed the red ink printing for. The card you have is very rare but there is likely not a big premium associated with your variation. I would guess $20 top end for a Nolan Ryan or Topps error collector. With that said your card is in rough shape so maybe $5-$10. I personally have not seen anything similar on other 1991 Topps cards.
Always looking for 1993-1999 Baseball Finest Refractors and1994 Football Finest Refractors.

Stupid question.... is it possible this is a wax box bottom?

Couldn't find much in a quick search, but what I saw just said that cards from the bottoms of Wax boxes were numbered A-P with career highlights on the back instead of stats. But, I read this on one blog and a Wikipedia page. I couldn't find a checklist of those cards either.

Box bottoms were lettered instead of numbered and had a yellow border that year (Nolan was #N with a different photo).
