Dodged a $1000.00 bullet! What do you think would have happeend?

I had a buyer of a PSA 8 1986-87 Fleer Michael Jordan rookie ask to send the card back because he thought it was more centered than the scan showed.
I allowed it and asked that he just send it back.
Well, I notice in the USPS tracking it shows "Out for Delivery" in his hometown since Tuesday.
I insured the package for $500.00(all that it would allow when I generate the printing label from eBay) and paid for signature confirmation.
In some situations, I can see a buyer saying they never received the item and I would lose the card correct?
One thing I need to take into consideration as I move forward buying/selling on eBay is the risk involved.
Here is the auction.

Easier to consign I would think but then this pain in the A$$ would just hassle them as well.
Not sure why it's being returned anyway if it's better looking in person than in scan. Not sure I follow.
Hope it works out for you.

<< <i>I insured the package for $500.00(all that it would allow when I generate the printing label from eBay) >>
It sounds like you printed the label through Paypal, not ebay.
The maximum USPS insurance when printing the label through Paypal is $500.
The maximum USPS insurance when printing the label through ebay is $5,000.
If you need more than $500 insurance for a non-ebay transaction, you can use Click-n-Ship on usps.com which also lets you insure up to $5,000. Note that Click-n-Ship is only for Priority Mail or Express Mail.

I find your brashness irritating at times but I must admit you add good value to the forums pretty frequently.
<< <i>Not condoning the buyer's actions, but using crappy cell phone pics for a $100 card is never a good idea. On a $1000 card, at least buy a $40 scanner. >>
The pic looks just fine to me and as clear as any scan.

Agreed. Sounds like buyer's remorse to me. I'm surprised some of the peanut gallery on the board isn't harassing you into sending the card back to PSA for their 'grade guarantee' however.....
Snapped pictures for high dollar items just doesn't cut it, IMHO.
The picture looks "ok", but still, get a better scanner.

If I am not mistaken the USPS before paying off the insurance would have conducted an investigation that could have turned up
the signature confirmation and a scan for the delivery. At that point the buyer would have had some explaining to do if he had claimed
it was not delivered.

USPS does not conduct any investigation the local post office will call you maybe. But usually that's about it
<< <i>No returns on graded cards especially with good scans provided is a reasonable policy despite it disqualifying you from some seller perks on eBay.

Does not matter what your policy is all they have to say not as described and they can send it back
I don't mind the return(although he got it on Tuesday and let me know this morning he wanted to return it).
I was more concerned about the USPS not scanning the darn thing DELIVERED.
It just seems so USPS. It's an important package that was insured and signature confirmation was paid for.
