IMHO another delusional ebay seller

RealoneRealone Posts: 18,519 ✭✭✭✭✭
So I was bidding on a coin on ebay and noticed a bidder bid the coin up coincidentally to pcgs price guide then go away, he/she had 85% bidding frequency with the ebay seller, so my natural suspicion was....shill bidder. So I contacted the ebay seller and told him of my concern. BTW I bid on the coin and won it at the next increment, thus exactly at pcgs price guide level, I figured what the hay.

Anywho the ebay seller asked that I call him which I did and stated that the so-called ebay bidder wasn't a shill bidder but a very wealthy repeat customer who would have bid even higher on this coin if for not his pc locking up. I told him that a duck is a duck and I don't believe his repeat customer's pc locked up story. Then the ebay seller came clean but in a totally unexpected way, he stated that his so-called client was his partner and his partner bid to get the price higher solely to protect the ebay seller infatically believes that because he is actually buying the coin via his paypal account and receiving the coin that having such a paper trail negates him being a shill bidder. What do others here think about this evil practice and their ridiculous justification?

If eBay is collecting the appropriate fee/s, do you think they really give a chit?

I think that this sort of thing goes on routinely on eBay (including coin and non-coin transactions) and outside eBay, as well.

I know the market for what I collect, bid what I am willing to pay, and do not worry about the rest.

Ask yourself if the price you paid would equal the price you would be willing to pay on a Buy it Now, then you're fine.

if not, and you got wrapped up in a bit of a bidding frenzy along with the shill bidder, then you're right- it is unjust and your grievance deserves to be heard officially (eBay) and unofficially (here).

Very sensible. Life is short, and there is no point in fretting about something that you have no control over.
Everyone knows about rampant, misrepresented items, shill bidding, and other issues, so those who
peruse ebay offerings should not expect problem-free sales or auctions.

  • I don't put much faith if what the OP says and suspect there is more/less to the story than his convoluted imagination has constructed. All I know is crazy people seam to be the only ones who see UFO's. Who I really feel sorry for is the poor seller who most likely received not less than 50 Emails/PMs about the conspiracy theory and probably simply told the OP what he wanted to hear to make him go away.

I could be wrong but that isn't where I would put my money on the table.

Not that I disagree with the general point but if you think that craziness is determined by the ability to see UFO's then I would expect that crazy people would be the only ones who see them. Now what did I just say?
