MS70 Ikes For Sale

segojasegoja Posts: 6,141 ✭✭✭✭
It gets even better. Teletrade has 5, read that FIVE, MS70 Ikes for sale in the May 15 auction. One as a lot of 4 silvers 1972-1976, and a lone 1976-S.

These are listed as PCGS 70, which is how they list mint state coins. Could this be a mistake? Could they really be ICG coins masquerading as PCGS???

Anyone with the inside scoop?

I saw that. Could be a real steal! Naturally being teletrade, you have no clue what they really are.

I wasn't even aware ICG had graded any of these in MS70. Probably a typo and it's PR70 (which would still be amazing if they're PCGS). What did the lot description state?

    Typical Teletrade description:

Brilliant with a trace of gold, well struck, nice luster.

Since the teletrade description did not mention the DCAM, they should be MS coins. May be these coins are graded by teletrade image

These are NOT MS70 coins- in ANYONE'S holder. They must be a typo then for MS67's.

hmm if they are in ACG or PCI graded as 70's, they must be AU's and cleaned, if in an ICG they must be 67's, if they are in NGC's they must be 68 or 69's, now the comment's are if they are 70 in PCGS slabs must be a mistake. Amazing and no one here has even seen the coins. All because Teletrade is selling them. New grading standard, downgrade the slab if they are on Teletrade.

    IrishMike,
There are no Silver Ikes in MS70, so how can this not be a mistake?

dbldie sorry I didn't mean to imply that there were any, the tone of my post is responses I've picked up here, being an old time collector who was dormant moreor less for 40 years I am new to the slabbing game, I picked up the hobby again in 1999. The comments I made were to point out how confusing this is to an old timer not used to the slabbing game. I'd be the first one to admit I would I defer to the others who are much more knowlegeable. Imagine being a collector new to slabbing how overwhelming this is. Seems like 50% of the people agree with a point and 50% disagree, which of course is what makes it fun. Hope this claries the point I was trying to make. image

  • About a week ago I bought a PCGS MS70 $50 Gold Eagle from Heritage. The auction said PCGS, the discription said PCGS, I even called Heritage and asked to be sure and they said it was PCGS. The coin shows up a few days later and it was an NGC coin that trades for less than half of what I paid!imageimage

Heritage was good about taking the coin back and not charging me although I am still waiting for the credit to be issued.

There has to be something else wrong with the Teletrade auction. Maybe Pat's right and the typo is on the grades and not the holder. Probably both.

  • I just received the following email from Teletrade regarding my questioning of the MS70 IKES:

    Mr. Schmitz,
Thank you for your email inquiry. As you suspected, the grade listing for
the two lots in question are incorrect. Both lots should have been listed as
MS67. As a result, both lots in question will be withdrawn from the auction.
I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
