MS69 IKE FOR SALE

segojasegoja Posts: 6,136 ✭✭✭✭
Now that I have your attention, did anyone see the 1972-S NGC MS69 Ike that Rick T has for sale on E-Bay??? Looks nice, but hard to tell. Has anyone seen the coin?

I'd be curious as to what you think it will sell for if at all.

Starts at $3500, with a buy it now for a mere $8500.

Braddick, can you get by Rick's and look at the coin?

This one will be tracked by all!

The first bite has been taken. The minimum bid of $3500 has been hit, literally seconds after the posting of this thread.

The scan sure looks nice. If this coin rockets up to about $5,000 or so, what would one in a PCGS holder command?

    Wondercoin:

Sorry to disappoint you but I still love those MS67 1950-S/D and 1937-D in MS67 best of all. They define the essense of creamy white to me. Toning is nice and I have one of them. I can grade those quarters easier without all that toning in the way! image

Even if that 1937-D quarter is missing some of that creamy white luster on the edge of the eagle's wings, I couldn't care less.

    I want it!!

It matches all of my other early 1930's quarters.

I don't know whether the coin was the same which auctioned in teletrade sale 1492 (Oct 10, 2001) lot 1750? It is also NGC MS69 and was sold for $575 + 10%. image

How many MS69's has NGC graded? That may tell us if it's the coin from teletrade. As I recall that coin from the scan, it was not very nice.

There was no scan on the coin; otherwise, I would bid it. image

The (small) photo looks interesting, it appears to have prooflike surfaces.

It would be nice if they'd elaborate on the description just a bit considering they're asking $8500. Plenty of irrelevant registry set cameo formulae info though. image

Does anyone think it is a Proof coin based on the picture? image

  • I picked up an NGC 68* 72-S from R & I and it is a beautiful piece so I wonder how much nicer a 69 from the same grading service is.

Bill- My guess is your MS68* is right in line with the eye appeal of this MS69. I can only imagine you paid thousands less too.

Not too lazy to put the link in, but too stupid to know how to do it.

How's that for the quote of the day!

Let me know how, and I'll be able to fish forever.

Again, with the word, "fish". Greg- would you please step in and put a stop to this madness??!

  • Pat - I just took a look at the picture of this coin, and realizing that pictures can be exceptionally deceiving, the 68* that I picked up was every bit as attractive if not more so - AND YOU ARE RIGHT.... at a small fraction of the cost! image

  • I'm just guessing and I'm not trying to speak for Rick (maybe he'll come here and explain), BUT i would think that if Rick thought it would crossover he would have made it or privately sold it. Gosh I've over think, thank, thought for the day!image

Pretty safe bet that the coin has been turned away from the Pearly Coin GateS by St. Crossover at least once. image

It will be interesting to see if it sells for a good premium (the $3500 bid could just be a thrill-seeker as the reserve isn't met). If so, then NGC looks like a better home to sell a a really premium PCGS MS68 coin.

You'd have a tough time selling a 1972-S PCGS MS68 for that kind of dough no matter how many +'s you put after your PQ's.
