I was wondering the opinion of the experts on the value of an 1857 O WB-102 (errant date in rock)? The coin graded AU53 by NGC. Opinions welcome. I will have the coin back next week so I can put up some pictures at that point. Thank you in advance.

Try posting a pic on the LSCC forum on Yuku under the Seated Halves category when you get the coin back. That's the right place to ask about the value of Seated varieties, not so much on this forum, which is more general. Bill Bugert will probably stop by and give you an opinion too.

Another suggestion is to go through the Heritage archives and search to see if any other examples have sold in recent memory.

Frankly, my own experiences with looking at pieces over the past 10 years shows a pretty significant number of these appearing, could be anything from 20-30% imo. Someone posted a 57-0 half a month or two ago and sure enough, the errant date in rock variety. I was going after the finest graded specimen of this date a few years back and sure enough....the errant date in rock variety. While a cool variety I don't think it's that unusual. The date itself in problem free higher grades is pretty tough as it is. I wouldn't pay more than a 10% premium for this variety over a non-listed variety. It would seem that you can find errant date varieties of the late 1850's seated halves fairly easily with a little searching.

I posted a question on the LSCC Seated Halves forum over a year ago and Bill Bugert never responded. He hadn't posted in many months.
