I sent something in a PWE, buyer claims he never received the card. While this MAY be accurate, from discussions on SCN, this is becoming like an epidemic. Im done sending anymore in a PWE, even if its only a 4.00 card. Never had this problem before but Im becoming less trusting. Buyer does have 100% feedback but then again, only 94 Feedback score.
Use your own discretion if you want to block this person.

Serious math question. I have NO IDEA what things cost. What percentage of these types of deals go bad vs. the added cost of the tracking numbers and lost/diminished sales caused by having to charge them? Do you get beat more then the potential decease in sales in the long run. In some situations it just me be the unfortunate cost of doing business. I would think there has to be some point of diminishing returns here. I just am oblivious to the math though.

Are the discussions on SCN about this buyer or about a more general problem w/ buyers claiming they did not receive the card? Is this an isolated incident with this buyer?
Bubble mailer with tracking
$4.00 transaction
-$0.36 eBay fee at 9%
-$0.42 PayPal fee at 2.9% + $.30
-$0.15 shipping supplies
-$1.69 USPS 1 to 3 oz. rate
=$1.38 net profit
Stamp and PWE
$4.00 transaction
-$0.36 eBay fee at 9%
-$0.42 PayPal fee at 2.9% + $.30
-$0.03 shipping supplies
-$0.46 stamp
=$2.73 net profit
Of course, you can pass that extra cost on to the buyer, but you're competing with people who choose to eat the delivery cost. For me, I use bubble mailers for thick cards, auto cards, cards over about $3-$4, etc., and charge the buyer for shipping. If it's a 1978 Reggie Jackson that is off center with a soft corner, that thing is going in a PWE with a stamp. I've sold many cards like that this summer and haven't had one complaint. For me, it's worth the risk, and if someone ever claims that they didn't get it, I will cheerfully refund their $1.79 and hope they are mature enough to not leave negative feedback.

The .30 paypal fee is not solely a shipping cost (charged whether shipping is free or not). So your net profit is slightly higher.

Are you considering an alternate example other than what I showed here? I subtracted it in both examples exactly as it is subtracted in real life.

<< <i>Nice, call the buyer out because you sent in a PWE and he says he never received it. Seems logical to want him on a BBL. >>
That's why he said "may" want to block. Not like he came on here screaming for everyone to block him.

I'm fully aware of what he said. The problem is, a potential good buyer gets on someone's blocked list and then when there is a thread where people compare their blocked bidder lists, his user name gets copied onto multiple lists for no reason or explanation. People just blindly copy other blocked bidder lists not knowing any facts to why they ended up on that list. From what I have seen of the OP's posts, I believe him to be a good guy, but I just think this is wrong. FWIW, I have sold to the buyer with no issues and if you look at the feedback he has left seller's, there are no red flags, nor any red flags in follow up feedback from sellers. Not to mention, the guy isn't even buying much stuff. I would think someone who was lying about missing cards would probably be buying a lot more stuff from people who send in PWE's to get more "free" cards. This doesn't appear to be the case.
