UFC - am becoming addicted

Not a gory blood guy here. Stayed away from UFC since inception. The fights are handled very professionally. Classy. UFC is now raised above hockey and basketball in enjoyable sports. Expecting for it to surpass all but baseball in the next couple years within my own world.
To confirm though for anyone who may not know: This is NOT that wrestling ' i love man bodies' stuff that existed the last 40 years, or even the massive cheating 'boxing' that left reality back in 1985. This stuff is legit and there is no questioning the greatness of it. I am becoming addicted to this. The future. (for those buying 1980's baseball ((like me ! heh heh) am moving to UFC now. The next generation.

I agree with you though, that for the most part UFC tries hard to run it like a completely legit sport. Hope you continue to enjoy it. And the memorabilia will absolutely increase over time, once the fanbase decides what the high demand items are (gloves, promotional materials, tickets, trading cards, etc).

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
From a collectible standpoint this is not good. You need long terms stars for values to hold. I would be very cautious on placing long term bets on this sport.
MMA is super exciting and great to watch on PPV but picking the guy who stays on top long term and maintains fans interest is going to be next to impossible at this point.
Anderson Silva is nearly unbeatable but fans hate him. Finding that balance and for them to stick around I just don't think is easy.
Dpeck100: You make a good point.
DPeck. Thank You. Class act Sir.
I just bought a 2009 UFC box from BBCE (once the invoice comes back) Had to. After the football game ended, UFC kicked in on the channel. And man it was freaking glorious ! thanks again for letting the mockery on the other stuff go.
Will await the fate with my sealed shipping box of sealed 2009 BBCE UFC box (hee hee). Will be fun for me though, some day.
<< <i>Dpeck, thank you. You are a very admirable man. Mean it. I thought I'd take crap from the wrestling/boxing folks for what I said. Thank You Sir for being a total professional. Class act even with my intent on ripping on wrestling etc.

Good luck with the box. I say bust that baby open and see if you hit a red auto.

Looking to BUY n332 1889 SF Hess cards and high grade cards from 19th century especially. "Once you have wrestled everything else in life is easy" Dan Gable
<< <i>I bought some UFC cards since I have seen many of these guys wrestle in amateur matches in college and in high school. I disagree that a loss will hurt the star. Unlike boxing where a loss is quite devastating to the boxer, MMA does a great job of not being hung up on the overall record of their athletes. If you look at a guy like Randy Couture, he suffered many losses but he was a champ numerous times. He is extremely popular and considered quite a legend. I like collecting some of the oddball trading cards of some guys in MMA like college wrestling cards or cards from Japan in the BBM sets, etc. A few years ago I got quite a few cards signed through the mail by UFC guys and the response was great. Royce Gracie has an awesome signature and I am proud that I was able to get one of Sakuraba by sending to Japan as well. Good luck with your collection. I have a few cards yet, like a Round 2 signed Jon Jones rookie etc. On the registry I have a signed MMA set from 2008, Ring Kings before all the other sets started to take off. Thanks for sharing. >>
Just like the WWF or WWE the UFC has crushed its competition. Four years ago there were tons of promotions attempting to put on MMA events. The UFC is the major leagues and if you lose a few times you are gone. Many of the stars in prior years had other promotions to go to but those days have changed.
MMA is a sport where you have to win to stay around. There are a few guys like Chael Sonnen that can lose but it is only because they can talk fans into watching and put on a good fight.
It is really hard to imagine 20 years from now fans caring about the fore fathers of this sport. A guy like Ken Shamrock who was awesome is a laughing stock at this point. Rampage Jackson put on brutal slug fests in Japan but no one cares after he has lost a number of fights in a row.
Fans definitely care about records and one thing that is certain is Dana White does too.

man, that paragraph above scares me
Am going to go after the UFC stuff. Will post whenever anything of interest. (if ever opening it hee hee) A 2009 box at that price ? This better get cheaper.
<< <i>thanks for the advice. of all that is sacred in this world, please don't let UFC turn in to what wrestling or boxing is Watching theUFC fights, man, not sure how it could be faked or dived. A fat pig wrestler or cheating boxer could actually pull off a dive, but not this stuff. Love it. (please oh please remain legit) >>
It's easy to fix MMA fights and has been done many times, including all the biggest groups. UFC had some early in their history, PRIDE had several, Pancrase had a few, and RINGS had a few. All it takes is to go to the ground and one guy to not fight quite hard enough to defend a submission. Piece of cake.
In January of 2009 (I believe) they handed out a Topps pack of cards to all who attended the event. These preview packs were selling for $100 or so on Ebay. I still have my pack unopened but I believe St. Pierre was on the front.
<< <i>I am a huge UFC fan and I have never seen a fixed fight in all my years of watching this. I have seen a couple of fights in Pride where it was questionable though. The way Dana and the Fertitta brothers have set up the UFC, I would doubt any fights would be thrown. The MMA guys are fighting for their lives literally. Since this is not a team sport you are solely responsible for being promoted. The fighters are the best athletes in the world and none of them are going to lay down for a fight. They work way too hard to lose their chances of being demoted/promoted. For those of you who like excitement, I would strongly encourage each one of you to attend a live event. It will be the best sporting event you have ever experienced. >>
UFC has had at least a couple - Oleg Taktarov vs Anthony Macias at UFC 6 and Don Frye vs Mark Hall from Ultimate Ultimate 96, to name two. There have been other "suspicious" fights, too. That's pretty much been eliminated, however, now that UFC is regulated.
Pride definitely had some, with Takada/Coleman being the most infamous.
I second the vote to attend a live event. I've had front row at a couple local MMA shows and the experience was awesome.
Will need to start schooling up on this as am diggin' it.
I wouldn't mind owning one of these one day but I decided I wanted to wait for the prices to drop to much lower levels. This at one point sold for $750 and was still closer to $300 in the past year. It has been falling ever since. Brock Lesnar is my favorite current wrestler by far but since he was a flash in the pan in UFC those fans will never respect him and the price reflects that.
