Should I get these slabbed? Would it make much difference?

Over on the B/S/T board, I have this entire set of 25 cards for sale. The set is a 1909 E95 Philadelphia Caramel. I was wondering what you guys think about getting the Cobb, Wagner, and Matthewson slabbed as "Authentic" in PSA holders.

First of all, these and the entire set is definitely authentic. In you guys' opinion, would PSA slab them as "Authentic" with the three borders missing? It is my opinion that they would.

Secondly, would it make much difference in selling my set? I don't think it would hurt any at all. However, if it would be a wash financially, I don't want to waste the time, effort, and money doing it.

Any opinions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Here are the cards I'm talking about.

First off, great cards! Even trimmed, that's a beautiful set.

I would definitely get those cards stabbed. In my opinion - any prewar cards of blue chip players like that should be slabbed. And yes - I think that will positively affect your resale price.

SGC might be the way to go with those if you're looking to keep them in your collection. The custom cuts of the gasket insert will really make them pop, but the trending prices would suggest PSA and the dreaded "mylar baggie" if you're looking to maximize for resale.

I think that anytime you have an old set that is valuable, it would be a good idea to get them slabbed (at least the valuable cards in the set). It allows the buyer to be confident that he is buying an authentic card and not a reproduction. I think buyers will offer more knowing this.

Yes, but only those 3 players from E95 have the demand/value to justify getting them authenticated/slabbed (for the newbies if you plan to sell)
IMO dont slab the commons if you have the rest of this set w/3 border chopped

That was my next question. I was thinking about possibly getting the whole set in slabs to maybe make it more desirable. I guess I will not do that. The three big ones are headed to PSA this week. Thanks for the opinions, guys.

As for SGC, I have never sent anything to them. I need to get my PSA membership renewed, so I might as well send them in.

I have been thinking about this all morning. Wouldn't the entire set be more desirable in slabs rather than just 3 cards? Compared to the value of the set, it wouldn't be that expensive if I could get it graded on the October special. Thoughts?

  • the plank is more valuable than the matty...so it should be the big 4.

the commons in these condition are probably $15-$20 cards, and smaller hofs probably less than $50...so factor that in to see if it's worth it to slab.
  • Slab the whole set using SGC. Wait until they have a pre-war $10 special. The entire set in custom inserts with the black borders will really give it eye appeal and perhaps make the trimming not so obvious.

I do not think that Psa would even slab them.

The commons or any of them? I would think that they would slab the big ones for sure wouldn't they?

I sent them two badly trimmed 33 goudey Ruth's and they sent them back in card savers with a flip that said trimmed.

Did you request PSA Authentic or did you just send them in?
