Can a coin hurt your rating?

Can you have a coin that will hurt your rating on the set registry? I have a MS-64 1943 Lincoln in my set. Its the only one I have graded so I put in the set. Does this hurt my set ranking, not that at #39 it really matters. I just updated it with some nicer coins and filled a few holes so I should move up some.

  • I don't think a coin could ever hurt anything image I also think it is better to fill holes than to worry about an upgrade.

While your average grade could be lowered, any coin gives you more points than an empty hole.

This fact tempted me to buy one of the ugliest AU58 SLQs I've ever seen. Price was at AU50 grey sheet, but I worried I'd break my glasses if I looked a second time!

It can only hurt your rating with other collectors!!!!

What the heck is he doing with THAT coin in there.

It would look good in my "other" set. Hoping to do the short set in 64's

Also wanted to do the ENTIRE set in BN, but I figured it would cost me $2100 in fees.
  • who really cares what the number on that plastic thingy says? I just picked up a beautiful AU58 1838 small stars for myset. Could I have purchased a MS63? yes. But this AU58 just looked great!

Au58's are great ways to pick up coins. Some could be just a snort away from being worth 50X and to me thats a bargain. I agree with you. I was specifically talking about my Lincolns which for many of the dates they are not very expensive.
