Mattingly '84 Topps Tiffany or Michael Jordan '87 Fleer

VCP shows a value of about $1,000 for both cards in PSA 10.

Which card would you rather have?

I'd probably sgo with the rookie card and take Mattingly. HOWEVER, if the Jordan POP is significantly lower, then id go with Mike.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
  • i AM A DIE HARD fan of both players since birth... I would go with the Jordan. Mainly because putting the name tiffany AFTER THE WORD TOPPS doesnt mean that much. I will keep my sgc 96 regular topps mattingly rookie, and TAKE THE JORDAN!!!
A really big fan of Dan Aykroyd
  • ALSO it doesnt hurt the fact that Jordan is the best ever in his entire sport, mattingly is like the 10th best Yankee of all time...

I'd prefer the matingly if they were 10 dollar cards. But since its an area where you need to consider the investmemt, mj is the easy answer. He's our generations mantle regards to cards. I am not comparing sports peerfomance and dont care too. Mantle cards are untouchable to babyboomers. Jordan cards have that place with us kids of the baby boomers and I think the value will see parallels over time. Mattingly just doesn't have that.

I'll take the Mattingly in PSA 10. '84 is the first year for Topps Tiffany, the production is much lower compared to regular Topps - and I see 84-86 Topps Tiffany sets doing very well as the 80s card collectors re-enter the hobby.

  • I'm going to vote for Mattingly as well. He isn't as big of a player as Jordan.....but....NYC is the capital of the world (and sports world) and Mattingly was a god in the 80's and every kids dream.

Also, the 87 Fleer design isn't one of the best. That set has never gotten much of a bump over the years. And 84 Tiffany has low production.
  • I'd choose the Jordan without even the slightest hesitation.
  • If future value is your main concern, I would go with Jordan.

I have a run of the Topps. Tiffany sets but they're all still in sealed boxes. I have never seen any of the cards
    Topps Baseball-1948, 1951 to 2017
    Bowman Baseball -1948-1955

I am a basketball fan, so I would choose the Jordan. If you are a big fan and collector of these two players then they are both great options.

That being said, if I were choosing this as an investment consideration, I don't think I would go with either of these. As another poster said, I think there are many cards and unopened boxes that would be stronger upside candidates than these two cards.
