I would bet good money on it... because these teams have:

    #2 Los Angeles Dodgers - $216,302,909
    #4 Boston Red Sox - $158,967,286

While spending money on payroll doesn't guarantee you the playoffs, not spending money is much more likely to keep you out.

It's just not a level playing field. The only thing that ever makes it interesting is when a small money team beats a big money team.

I guess you won't be watching any more baseball this year, as it will be uninteresting. Every remaining team has a payroll of $79 million or more

Dodgers v. Red Sox would be what the tv execs want.

Being in Cali I would love to see A's v. Dodgers. Maybe the gutty little A's could do like the gutty little Dodgers did in '88!? I hope not but would make for good tv.

In the end it's the big spending teams that win and this year is no exception. Cheapskateball...er...moneyball loses out to big money ball every time.

Pretty much. Thats one thing i dislike about baseball compared to the other pro sports. No salary cap.

Anyway, I'm predicting a Detroit/st louis world series.

    Really?

So the A's lost out to the Rangers and Angels? Where was this negativity as the A's were winning? It must be amazing to be captain hindsight where you can make statements after they happen and make it sound like you knew it beforehand.

Well if the Tigers bats don't do better than they did in the A's series, they won't get past Boston.

I think Cabrera might finally be off the schnide, so they should be able to beat Boston pretty handily.

Moneyball will get teams into the postseason but that's all...getting in to the postseason. Big difference between getting in and winning in the postseason.

I warned my wife that if the Dodgers (and my boyhood idol Donnie Baseball; as he's from nearby Evansville, IN) makes the World Series against her Red Sox (she's from Greater Boston) I may have to root against her team...so if that comes to pass don't be at all surprised if I have to sleep outside with my cat for the next several nights image

Clearly, your wife will be rooting for the right team! A big "wicked good" to her. Tell her my hometown is Lowell.

Hope it doesn't rain too much where you live for the next week or two. image

Dodgers have a huge mountain to climb facing Wainwright in Game 3 and down 2-0, and having Game 6 and Game 7 in St. Louis.

A pair of 1-0 shutouts today. There's some seriously slick pitching being fielded on all 4 LCS teams this year.

I don't have a dog in this fight but I so wish the Dodgers had won. Now we're going to be regaled over and over with how the Cardinals play baseball the 'right' way and how St. Louis fans are the best in baseball. Blech.

Go Red Sox, hopefully sweep St. Louis.

I was really hoping for my idol to finally get his chance to shine on MLB's biggest stage and truth be told the Dodgers did come a very long way and put up a good fight in the NLCS...but I guess the Cardinals' experience (they've finished at least National League Runner-Up eight times since 2000 and of course also won a couple of championships) in the end was just too much. image

At least my wife's team is in it for the first time since 2007! And hopefully my Cats will once again be a serious title contender this coming season as well! We certainly don't need anymore NLT's... image
