Need a Penny? Take One or I cant get no copper/zinc satisfaction

Its getting tough to get a penny back in change here in the pacific nw. One cent four cent the clerk is happy and willing to pick out of the penny jar in order to spare me of the dreaded cent. With a smile and a wink they reach into the pile of pennies as if to say, I got you covered. I like the penny, I like change, It is the cheapest and easiest way to stay involved in numismatics. We even financed a trip last summer from our change jars. Is this the same everywhere? I'm thinking this thread might pull us out of sleepyville

I've notice that at independently owned stores the clerks are happy to round the purchase in your favor, while clerks at chain stores give exact change.

I usually insist on getting the exact change so I can search the results.
