Mantle's 500th Home Run

Came across this clip on You Tube and thought it was pretty cool--the broadcast on WPIX here in NY of Mantle's 500th home run.

I love seeing how dressed up people used to get for baseball games back then.

Amazing ... #500 and he still runs around the bases like he always did when he hit a HR .. with his head down ... very humble when he played ... today the entire bench would be waiting for him at home plate ... and he would have a dozen curtain calls.
    STAY HEALTHY!

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

Mantle going for home run #500 and there are EMPTY seats!!!! Empty seats where the home runs land!! Today, people would be paying ridiculous money for those empty seats hoping to trample someone to catch the home run ball!

I'm sure a lot of left handed hitters today would also enjoy a 296ft right field fence.

And yesterday, too...it was 295' for babe Ruth.

Let's see them do it without gloves and stepping out of the box after every pitch.

I was noticing that too. Also, no copious amount of pine tar, no body armor, and pitchers who knocked you down as an accepted practice.

On the 3-2 foul ball hit in the dirt, Etchebarren waits
'till it stops rolling, and throws it back to the pitcher.

The ump didn't even try to swap it out.

Baseballs must have been more valuable back in
    the day.
