Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
Listen, Dusty is a decent manager that can build a team and get them to the playoffs. That is it. He cannot take them any further (except for the 1 year in SF). He has proven this with every team. He never knew how to manage a team in the playoffs................same could be said for Bobby Cox. The final nail for me was last year when we had a 2-0 lead on SF and got swept at home. I would have NEVER given him an extension after that.
Now the question is who do we go after. Brian Price has to be at the top of the list. I wonder though if we will go after Ryne Sandberg?????????

I'm a Giants fan and completely understand the Reds fans relief. He did it to us for years!
Hey..how about Pete Rose?? Anybody??

What if they brought back the whole player/manager role? Or is that even legal now?

Selig can't leave soon enough, I'd love to see it. Perhaps Larkin could bring back a 1990 spark?

He has been picked by the Phillies already. Any chance Larkin would be interested?

I thought he was only an interim. I hadn't heard they hired him full time. If I had to guess I would say it will be Brian Price.
And yes, I would LOVE to see Peter Edward Rose as our manager again....................but it will never happen.

Let's see, Mark Prior, Kerry Wood, Aaron Harrang, and he was working on Mat Latos. Cueto's is because of that Tiant-like wind-up.

Its mostly Walter Alston's fault.
I read about a game where Koufax didn't have his best stuff, but the Dodgers scored a ton of runs and were up something like 15-3 going into the 9th and Alston sent out Koufax for the 9th where he wound up with north of 170 pitches.
Lasorda just followed his mentor.
Dusty was one of my favorite players growing up. He had a rep as being lacksidasical in Atlanta, but on the Dodgers he was pure hustle.
However, his handling of pitching staffs, substitutions, etc leaves a lot to be desired. He has some good Reds teams, but the Cardinals are just managed so much better. And so it highlights how much of a genius La Russa is, and how deficient Baker is.
I think Lasorda just hated pitchers- he didn't handle pitching staffs well as evidenced by all the crippling injuries during his tenure.
