Cards with Bling?

Panini is releasing basketball cards with actual diamonds and emeralds embedded in them. Is this really card collecting or just buying expensive gems? To me this is exploitive of the hobby and just plain old tacky. Is anyone here interested in this product?

Good golly. I don't WANT a diamond on a sports card. What kind of combination is this. Not seeing the point past what you said about buying a 50 dollar diamond for 1250 bucks. 'Here honey, bought you a diamond' uhh no.

    It never leaves you...
  • Some people I've talked to here in Indy are going bonkers over it, but I think it's kinda lame to be honest. Are companies that desperate to make a dime?

You need a magnifying glass to see it!

And Fleer/Bleechers were both doing this 16 years ago. Panini themselves did it a couple years ago so not really a new concept. Not really much different than writing 1/1 on a card for creating a collectible imo. People will chase anything with a perceived added value.
  • I'm sure there are collectors that can't wait to get there hands on these but to me it's an example of what's gone wrong with this awesome hobby. Ill stick to my plain ol cardboard as always
