Thanks guys. Going to rip when I get home. Will post pics. Hoping this is a good batch. Maybe all the PSA 10 Valenzuelas and Guidrys and Gibsons have been hiding in this case all these years!

Well having opened the first ten packs, Stingray speaks like a man from experience. But having made my bet, I'll struggle on. I could have sat on it and it could appreciate $50 in a year or ten years but I'd rather rip! Will endeavor on and post scans this weekend.
Sounds brutal...sorry to hear this. 81s are tough!

Nikklos, Actually of all the years I collected from stores (1975-1986); 1981 by far had the most mangled cards. I have no idea why but I would routinely find cards like that. Also, 1981 Donruss were entirely random in cut and horribly centered.
Mint moondog - there were so many like that in this box. It defied logic. I don't remember that as a kid but I was less discerning. Have bought a few 81 boxes this year though and haven't seen the like.
Another strange thing about this box - Some packs the seal was so tightly fused to the wax card, I had trouble opening.
Quality control in 1981 was pretty poor even for Topps.
I believe these boxes were from a sealed case so they are fully authentic.
Thus is the drawback to ripping unopened in search of high grade cards.
The Ozzie looks like a blazer though so you might do well on that catd. Some other sharp cards too. I dont think it's as bad as you might think for what you have into the box.

I admire your ripping power. Even though the results weren't what you wanted, I am sure it was fun. Your rip has curbed my notion to break open some 1981's.

There were a bunch of cards looked like this
Maybe a few worthy of the grading fees
But I got my Fernando
Mookie's rookie was the first card I bought of this set. My favorite.
Such a tough year indeed, but brings back great memories.
