Jason's post got me searching the Wayback Machine. Anyone want a 1976 Baseball Rack pack? Mark's got them at 2 for $70.00.

The Frank Thomas rookie card from that series was pretty hot back in the day. It hit $100 in Beckett at one time.

Looking at these pages, the fascinating thing to me is how each individual item has its own market. It is 100% a sliding scale. The 84 Donruss boxes have barely moved, same with 75 Mini wax packs. Post-1985 has just about all gone down. Saw some early-80s that hasn't moved either. Anyone want an 82 Donruss box for $85? You don't have to travel back in time, they're still $85. Sure would like to grab a 52 Topps pack for $1500 though.

The really weird thing is that it seems like the biggest difference on a lot of vintage isn't the price, just the availability. Certainly some things have gone through the roof in price but a lot of it still sells for what it did 16 years ago, it just isn't instantly available on someone's website.

Man, that brings back memories, lol..

I'll take a 71 rack for $250 and a 71 cello with Carew on top for $295 please. May as well throw in a 70 5/6/7 series pack for $150 and three 74 opc baseball wax packs for $60 too! Lol!

I was buying vending from him at this exact time and busting it open with a buddy of mine. I made out well when the grading frenzy hit but wish I had bought some of those 60 rack packs or a 52 pack. image

Circa 2001 link, were there actual sales at these prices? I don't recall the grading market being that high even at it's advent!

This is really interesting and thanks for sharing. It amazes me how very little inventory Mark had in unopened boxes from before 1978 Topps.

I wonder how much he paid that "nice little old lady" for the 84 1952 Topps Wax Packs which she obviously had no clue of worth...

Loving the Vanilla Ice Flat Tops everyone has...gotta be the 90's!

Yes- those prices are pretty close. 83T Gwynns in PSA 10 were around $1500-2000 each in 2000.
  • Anyone here know what happen to this seller? It just seems like yesterday that I was looking at his website! It's really been years ago?? Wow

He had a huge fire at his CT location and moved to SD about 10 years ago. Murphy is still on ebay--but instead of vintage unopened, he is selling penny-ante packs, Griffey GU memorabilia and vintage TV and pop culture memorabilia for the most part.

Just to clarify . . . SD is San Diego, not South Dakota.
