Help explaining this PSA holder? fake?

I was going back over my purchases the past couple weeks, and I bought a PSA Fielder rookie in a PSA 10 but did a double take on the holder:
Can someone please help me with what is up with this?

Funky oddball holder that PSA sometimes puts cards in. They are legit, but freaking FUGLY!!! I put mine in a lock box and never look at them!
  • Thanks Bobby lol. okay I feel better - I did a carpet bomb nabbing as many Fielder rookies as I could before the Tigers win the World Series this year. image
I didn't even notice this design and never saw it before

It's basically a pack holder adapted to hold thicker than normal cards.

Looks like the old wax pack holder. Is it a very thick card?

Not especially, I have many others holdered in regular PSA slabs...interesting, maybe this particular card was somehow too thick?

Agreed. They're ugly and huge. Like others have said they are pack holders adapted for use with a thicker card.

I have a couple of Clayton Kershaw cards that are in this holder. They are legit, I personally subbed the Museum Collection card. PSA informed me that their new holder will accommodate these type of cards so I'll be doing a re-holder most likely.

Yes, too thick for the standard holder.
  • No Uglier than the regular PSA holder.

Are you thinking that the top border is chipped?? I think that is just the lighting in the photo.

Wow, that really is an ugly holder. It looks like it was designed for something else. Thanks for showing this, I will look for and avoid these holders.
