<< <i>Second question. Are they real? I am suspicious of any group of old coins that are that uniform in wear and color. >>
I had the same gut feeling. The coins in the grouping at top have greater wear, and a greater degree of variation in the wear. The coins at the bottom are much more uniform in their wear (including the rims and denticles, and the stars).
Liberty Seated coinage in the dime, quarter, half dollar, and dollar denominations is commonly counterfeited in China these days. In Beth Deisher's new book Cash In Your Coins: Selling the Rare Coins You've Inherited, there's a photo of a pile of fake coins on page 167.
They are good. The others i pulled out of the roll are better dates but worn out. some guy picked up all the half dimes if i only got there 20 min faster i would have got them as well.
