Should there be a Registry short-set for Wheats 1934-1958

PCGS has several shortsets in their registry program now. I was wondering if anyone else thinks that there should be a shortset for wheats from 1934 to 1958. It is a well accepted shortset in numismatic circles. I cant think of a coin album company that doesnt make an album for it. It is very easy to find such a set for sell in Coin World, Numismatic news, or any number of other publications.

I like the idea. Why not add another Lincoln option, since we already have multiple sets. The Lincoln run is so long that many people collect them in many different ways. The short set certainly seems popular. Might even consider it myself. Send DH an email. Who knows, you might get it. I would also like to see another proof option. One of the following would work for me:
1. 1950 - 1958
2. 1950 - 1964 or
3. 1950 - 1970 (including the SMS pieces)
Good luck and cheers.

Where did you possibly find the time to do all that ranking?

It would be a great idea to have a short set of 1934-1958 on the registry Tell David Hall I said so and also cc B.J. She is more responsive than David AND she is the boss.
The best short set (by grade point average) is not registered.

I happen to be working on that set right now. Actually 1935-1958, but I'll back it up to 34 if they make the set. Upon completion, I will then work my way back. Not sure how far I will make it but I'm gonna go as far a sI can.
Great idea,
Ray
I'm to that point now. There are only a few dates left that I need in the short set. I'm buying a few of the earlier dates now. I'm going to a show this weekend. I'm very hopeful I can find a few raw coins that will fill some "holes" in my set. We'll see.

Is it possible for Lincolns to get any hotter?
Does this mean we will have a log jam at certian parts? (i.e 10 people tied for 6th best set....)
Rich
I stepped out and sent DH and BJ an email with you idea. I also indicated that if they are too busy, that you folks would volunteer to develop the weights, bonuses, deductions, etc. We will see what we hear.

I already got a response from David Hall. He said he thought its a good idea, and that they could probably look at it in the Summer once they get up a lot of the current sets. While I volunteered you guys to do the work, I think they like to reserve the set creation for themselves. So, it sounds like you can start putting together your sets. If we don't have something by July or so, let's remember to follow up.
Cheers
Greg
There are 14 68's in the short set finest knowns and 57 67's.
My guess would be that the finest know for the short set would cost (if you could buy it) around $90,000
Being that that a short set (that actually went back to 1932) in MS66RD just sold for $3,000 (which I think was an AMAZIN DEAL), that is a HUGE jump

I'm pretty sure I'll never have a top five set. I may eventually get to a top ten, but only if a few sets get retired in the next few years. Since my funds are limited, my goal is mearly to have a complete set in PCGS 63BN or better. It will be a while.
In an aside, wow, you guys have connections. I certainly hope that PCGS is able to add the short set this year. It is really the section that I try to concentrate on.

This thread made it's way to David and me and DH has agreed that we will put up the short set for you.
However, we are going to ask for your patience in this matter. As you know, we have been working really hard on weighting, bonuses, tweaking sets, etc. We have a long list and some sets are quite complex and are taking much longer than expected to complete. We are trying to meet all the demands we are getting from set registrants in an orderly fashion. (I know this may come as a shock to you, but there are collectors out there who collect other things besides Lincolns!)
The bottom line is that we've added this set to our list, because clearly it is something that is wanted by many people, but we don't think we can get to this set until this summer. I wish I could be more specific, but I just can't.
As always, we appreciate your patience and your support of the set registry!

I take offense to this sentence. You make it sound like that Lincoln collectors are selfish people who think they are the center of the universe, when in reality, it's the Mercury Dime people who are causing all the problems!
Thanks. There are a number of co-collectors that I'm sure will be glad to see the set started. I know I'm looking forward to it.

Wow, I can not wait...lol. Not that I will be to high on the list. All the guys with the full set will just add their set over there as well and knock me down AGAIN!!!! Grrrrrr.

I happened to stumble across this post 7 years to the day This set must be a well kept secret, I can't find it. Was there really one in 2002? That was before my time.

1934-1958 RB Lincoln Short Set
Got into modern commemoratives and Roosevelt dimes and sold most of it off.
Then got clad Roosie fever and sold the commemoratives and what was left of the Lincolns.
I miss both, but miss the commemoratives most. Great coins, no two released were the same.
Is LincolnCentMan still around? He had an awesome short set! It wouldn't have ranked near the top but it was filled with the most pq coins and best quality for the money. When he sold it I snapped up the two keys, 49-p and 54-p from him (at quite a premium!). That's basically all I've accomplished so far for the short set! I had an ms67 50-p (pop 16 at the time, 18 now) and 53-d (pop 11 at the time, 13 now) and a few other tough dates but sold them to pay for some 1965-date coins. When done with 1965-date I'll certainly be back into the 40's and 50's!

This post by Stewart Blay was one of the very first he posted on the CU boards. He had great advice then regarding DH & BJ. Seven years later the advice is still good. Unfortunately, it was NOT implemented by CU. Maybe BJ could tell us why.

1934-1958 RB Lincoln Short Set
I remember the clammer for this set back in 2002. Unfortunately, at that time, the PCGS tech folks weren't in position to "duplicate" the program in ANY easy fashion. I assume that with the changes they made in the past two or three years, this ability is very quick to implement. Unfortunately, I assume, nobody pushed BJ on this short set in the last few years and she probably forgot all about it. When Mike brought this thread back up someone must have alerted BJ and within a day the Lincoln short set was up and running. With the easy ability to add coins to this set from inventory, I'm sure that within days lots of Set Registry collectors will add this set.
The moral of the story is if there are other recognized short sets out there within the denominations that may have been forgotten by PCGS in the last several years, now is the time to let PCGS know. If it has general recognition within the hobby, I bet PCGS can add it within the day.
