Are there any adverse effects from slabs?

I never thought of it before until receiving my latest sub Wednesday. The PSA slab caught the light just right exposing an oily “rainbow” appearance. Could this, in time, discolor a card or dry and crack the image. The CS1’s are the same way, but I store the card in an “acid free” penny sleeve inside the CS1. Just a thought to put out there and would like to hear from someone who knows.
