Anyone been to Turkey lately?

Someone I know is going. They want Euros. I thought Turkey wasn't in the EU, so no Euros, Turkey Lira. What should one bring to Turkey?

Turkey reformed their currency in 2005, with 1,000,000 old liras to a new lira. In 2009, a new series of coins was issued, omitting he word "yeni" (new) from the denomination name. I don't think pre-2009 coins are commonly found in circulation now. My dad visited Turkey in 2010 and didn't bring me back any pre-2009 Turkish coins from that trip.

As for what's accepted in Turkey, I'm going there next year; my copy of the Lonely Planet guide says that Turkish lira, euros and (American) dollars are all typically accepted by hotels and restaurants in the tourist spots. For other things and other places, I'd assume liras are the norm.
