    Very nice card!
  • Yes, it's a gorgeous card that looks like a 10, thus you will likely get an 8

  • Seriously, the standards are crazy. I am sending in what I feel like are truly gorgeous cards that I hv my fingers crossed on getting a 10, but I "will settle for a 9" and I get 8's....2 of these cards included

that is what I am afraid of, I feel real good about it though,
I just renewed today so it will be part of my 6 card sub

Sent in some of these 1985's that I thought(hoped) would be 10's. Got 7's and 8's.
  • Morning,

Having subbed at least two dozen Paytons from that year, Ill say upper right corner and lower left corner give that a MINT 9. My track record is about 1/2 8's & 1/2 9's. Still a Hundred dollar plus card in an 9!

And you can't get that second 10! That's going to me mine!image

How is e back? If it is clean like the front I think you get it into a 10 slab eventually. Upper right corner is only concern, but no white, and a 10 does not have to be perfect. Centering and edges are amazing for 85, and surface looks clean as a whistle.
Looking for rare Randy Moss rookies and autos, as well as '97 PMG Red Football cards for my set.

I'd say the odds are not in your favor. Out of nearly 700 cards submitted only 4 have been graded PSA 10 for this card.

It's nice, I think the upper right corner keeps it from a 10, though. But, you never know.
  • i just subbed an '85T Irving Fryar which was languishing in a box waiting for the opportunity to become a Gem......all i saw was flawlessness.

now, i'd feel confident knowing that the card is part of a 50+ card submission and the chances of heavy scrutiny are minimal, so i'll say it's 50/50 that it gets a 10.

    because it's Irving Fryar.

the odds of ANY potentially valuable Payton card requiring heavy scrutiny to get into a 10 holder are probably much greater. but i hope you nail it. good luck. image

  • I'd be happy with a 9 if I was submitting it. The surface is the hardest thing about '85's. That being said, you never know consideriing what the last 10 that sold looked like
    It never leaves you...

Both top corners look slightly "touched" to me.
  • That's a sharp card. Good luck with your grading.

Agreed. However, I hope you nail a GEM. The card looks great.

    Thanks,

Wow. One of my two favorite cards ever produced (I'll take the 1995 UD Ripken #365 as the best looking card ever), and one of the cleanest specimens I've ever seen to boot. Terrific pull.
