1981 Topps Vending Case

Looks like the same case that was BIN for $1600 is now for sale on Ebay with a starting bid of $925. What do you 81 Topps baseball fans think the case will sell for?

Starting bid is still too high for my liking with the condition of the case. I would think $960 max for a clean non-BBCE case ($40/box).

In my experience with vending cases the condition of the outer case is very important. Everytime I have opened up a case the corners were affected by the damage from the outer box. Usually in this senerio you will have 8 boxes that are well protected - those being in the middle of the case. Seeing the damage to this case from the OP, I would assume around four boxes will have damage to majority of the cards.

Not to mention that 81 vending is horrific to begin with.

True. Just opened a case of the 1981 and could not believe how bad the centering is on these cards.

  • Vending is the last thing you want to go to if you want high grade cards. I've had little success pulling anything more than a 9. The corners just aren't ever up to par. The only good thing is that there aren't any stains but that's about it.

  • It is my understanding that with the competing pressure from Fleer and Donruss in 1981 that Topps was in reaction mode and as a result quality control suffered. Various Topps employees describe that time as being very interesting.
  • Opened unsearched 36 vending boxes this summer.

Centering was horrific; card quality extremely variable due to thin card stock.

You may get a better case so good luck with it.
The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was to convince the PSA 10 collector he didn't exist.
